Professor Michael Luger, former Dean of Manchester Business School and former Chair of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, has been appointed by our Group’s Council of Governors. Michael starts in post in January 2021 for a three year term in office. The appointment follows the retirement of our former Chair, Mr Jim Potter, who led the Board of Directors at Salford Royal for more than 20 years and then latterly as part of the NCA Group (including The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust) for the last five years. Professor Luger holds an academic background as a PhD public sector economist. He completed an interim role as Pro-Vice Chancellor (International) and Dean of the Faculty ofBusiness and Management at Regent’s University London. He is appointed to the Board of the Office of Rail and Road, where his term ends in 2021. These are being delivered to teams across our sites over the next few days. The 'Popoola' scam is infecting NHS email accounts with a virus. The scam involves an email sent to staff alleging that their NHS email account has been infected with a virus. Staff are then asked to reactivate their account by clicking on a link, which infects their PC with a virus. The subject title of the scam email is 'POPOOLA'. The way this is financed is directly linked to how we record the patients that we treat. Each patient, unless from overseas (Non UK), is usually registered with a General Practitioner who in turn is part of a Clinical Commissioning Group, or a Local Health Board if registered in one of the devolved administrations such as Wales. Each Clinical Commissioning Group or Local Health Board is then charged for the treatment of patients that fall under their responsibility. All departments and services on the main hospital site have now been migrated to the new network infrastructure with the exception of: radiology, booking & scheduling, Oasis Unit, antenatal, facilities, catering and education. We are preparing for implementation in these areas to start during the week ending 8th January. Detailed planning is in progress as this will require some unavoidable network downtime to complete over a period of 2 to 3 days. Departments are asked to increase orders of Covid PPE in the coming weeks to ensure they have sufficient stocks to last for the four day Christmas bank holiday period. Deliveries of PPE will resume as normal on the 29 to 31 December where departments should re build stock for the New Year bank holiday period. Normal deliveries will resume on 4 Jan.
