Topic: The Chicago Police Department has been in the eye of a storm of public controversy over police shootings of civilians, including a Department of Justice investigation. Our speaker A.D. Sean Lewis is the Director of Public Policy & Legislative Affairs for the City of Chicago Civilian Office of Police Accountability (COPA). Lewis will provide a historical look at how and why police oversight agencies were created, what the current moment tells us about policing oversight, and what the future may hold for police oversight. Lewis will also highlight some of the challenges of attenuated with a police oversight program. It will be moderated by Prof. Keith Rohman and Susan Woolley of the Fact Investigation class and co-hosted by Prof. Sean Kennedy Executive Director, for Loyola Law School’s Center for Juvenile Law and Policy.
