From the Principal

As we make our way into 2nd semester and springtime, I'd like to provide a couple reminders so that the year continues successfully. As we move into Session 6, it is critical that students continue to make adequate progress by attending regularly and passing classes. Students who are not showing adequate progress may be withdrawn from Emerson High School and need to return to their neighborhood school.

If you have questions or concerns about your student's progress, please contact her/his advisor (email addresses for staff are on the last page of the newsletter).

AAUW STEM SCHOLARS

American Association of University Women) AAUW promotes equity in education for women and girls through scholarships and grants. National AAUW gives over $3 million to women in scholarships and fellowships annually. In addition, branches within our state give thousands more in local college scholarships. One of their goals is to encourage girls and women to pursue careers in science, mathematics, and technology.

Staff is currently nominating junior girls in the STEM areas who will be given recognition by the local AAUW branch and awarded Certificates of Excellence and a small gift at a reception in March at the Resource Center.

SITE VISIT LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL

On February 11th, folks from Lincoln High School located in Walla Walla visited the Emerson High School campus. Lincoln High School was featured in the 2015 documentary, Paper Tigers, for their work with students experiencing and living with trauma.

The team visiting from Lincoln High School consisted of 11 teachers in science, art, math ELA, social studies, and Sped. Their identified areas of interest included classroom observations and conversations with job-alike folks as well as general troubleshooting around moving to an 8 session calendar and formative/summative assessments like we do.

FUNDRAISING DINNER/AUCTION

Emerson High School will be having our bi-annual spring fundraising dinner and silent auction on April 22, 2020 from 6:00-8:00 PM. The theme of this year's auction is

We are looking for dessert donations with a

theme. To help make this fundrais-

ing event successful for the school, we will also be asking for donations of themed baskets or items to put into baskets, which will be assembled and sold via silent auction to benefit our school's ASB activities. We are looking for baskets that could auction in the range of $15 to $150. Below are some ideas of items baskets.

Cooking: cookbooks, kitchen/cooking utensils, personal recipes Animals: treats, toys, collars, bowls, leash, dog/cat food, animal crackers Pampering bath: loofa, bath fizzers, candles, bath bubbles, towels, bathrobe Gardening: gloves, mini shovel and pic, knee cushion, plant seeds, watering can, a flowering plant or vegetable Beach: blow up beach ball, long towel, sunglasses, sandals, sunscreen, and beach toys Music: guitar picks, drum sticks, CD's, head phones, blank CDR's Baby: diaper bag, bibs, pacifiers, diapers, toys, blankets, clothes, gift card from a baby store
