Music Mini ProjectsYou can select from the following Music mini projects and complete them at your own pace. Any questions and completed work can be emailed to Mr. Ring at eric.ring@nbed.nb.ca. These are cross-curricular activities that combine Music with at least one other subject. You may want to start with completing options most reflective of your strengths before moving on to ones that are more challenging. Most of the mini projects can be completed using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, video, or any other ideas you may have.Emotional Composition: Write an original song that clearly expresses emotion. It must be a minimum of 1 minute and can be a melody, melody and chords, or lyrics and chords. It can be a vocal or instrumental song and can be completed by completing an audio or video recording.Build an Instrument: Using household, or simple constructive tools, create an instrument. You can find video tutorials and instructions online to build instruments of all types and levels of difficulty. Demonstrate how the instrument works. You will also need to provide a list of materials and procedure on how to make this instrument. A self-assessment would have to be completed explaining how you thought the instrument turned out. Did it turn out as well as you expected? What challenges did you face and how did you overcome them? What would you do in the future to make the instrument better?Cover/Remix: Create or write a remix or cover version of a popular song. It may be created using digital technology, recorded and modified, or even be a written acoustic song. The goal is to make an interesting version of a song that an audience will enjoy listening to.Lyric Analysis: Using a song you know well, write out a line by line description and explanation of the song’s meaning. This should include a breakdown of the words, the typical song writing techniques used by the artist, and how the instruments affect the emotion.National Anthems: Compare the national anthems of 10 countries from different regions. Examine the words and music, and how they reflect the culture of each country.Traditional Music: Choose a musician or band that performs using traditional instruments from another country. Create a Word Document, PowerPoint, or video outlining the style of music they play, their variety instrumentation, and the meaning behind the music they play. CD or LP Cover: Design an album cover for a CD or LP. Include a track listing on the back of the cover. As with most album covers you will need to provide some information about the band or singer the album is about. You may design a cover for an original album of your own creation or design a new version of a previously released album. For size reference a CD cover is front and back height 12.5cm and width 14cm wide. An LP cover is front and back height 31cm and width 31cm.ECMA Poster: Create a poster project for a musician or group nominated for an ECMA (East Coast Music Awards). Include the category they are nominated for, others nominated in that category, a brief biography, discography, interesting facts about either the ECMA’s or the band/musician. Indigenous or Acadian Culture: Create a presentation demonstrating the music, dance and instruments of a Canadian Indigenous group or Acadian culture. Canadian Music Timeline: Create and colour code a timeline of 20 important Canadian songs, beginning in 1867. Include the musicians who either wrote or performed the songs. Movie Music Through the Ages: Using a movie clip from a popular movie from the 1960’s, explain how the music reflects important events, thoughts or attitudes of the time. Repeat the above exercises with clips from other decades up to the present day (1970’s, 1980’s, 1990’s, 2000’s, 2010’s). Use only school appropriate scenes and songs! Popular Music Timeline: Create a timeline for 10 important genres of popular music between 1950 and the present day, include the bands credited for the different forms and the song that demonstrates the genre. ................
