By-Laws of the Madison Academic Magnet High School Beta Club2018Article I - Time and Place of Meetings The time and place of meetings of this chapter of The National Beta Club have been decided upon after consultation with, and approval of, the executive head of Madison Academic High School. The time of the meetings of Madison Academic Beta Club will be the first Thursday that school is in session of each month at 6:40 AM; the place will be in the lecture room, unless members are otherwise notified. Article II – Quorum A quorum of this organization will be a majority of the membership. No action may be taken which is binding on the membership unless a quorum is present. However, certain matters, such as a discussion of means of taking in new members, meeting agendas, etc., may be carried on without a quorum. Article III – Standards for Membership and Recognition Standards of membership in the Madison Academic Beta Club must conform to the general features laid down in the national constitution and must be approved by the executive head of the high school. Members must be in grades 10, 11, or 12 at Madison Academic and must have been enrolled at Madison for one full-academic year prior to joining. Exceptions can be made if a 11th or 12th grade transfer student meets the GPA requirement.Scholastic requirements for this chapter will be a 3.25 or above. Students can have no Ds or Fs as a final grade in any course. To receive special recognition at graduation, members must be in good standing. “Good standing” means having paid dues, having no more than three absences from monthly meetings in an academic year, participating in at least one Beta Club service project per semester, officially documenting the appropriate number of community service hours in the counselor’s office by the end of the first semester, and maintaining a clean disciplinary record. Article IV –Loss of Membership Members will be dropped from membership for any one of the following reasons: They are absent without a justifiable reason from FOUR regular meetings, Their scholastic average falls below 3.25, There are moral or disciplinary reasons for which they are responsible. They have not turned in required documentation of service hours (7.5 hours per semester) to the counselor’s office by the end of the 1st semester (December). A member so dropped may be reinstated the following school year provided he/she meets the requirements laid down in the by-laws of this chapter of The National Beta Club. If a member who has been dropped is later reinstated, he/she will not be required to pay the national certificate fee again. Article V – Service ProjectAs soon as possible after its activation in the fall semester of the school year, this chapter of The National Beta Club will undertake a program of service which will be of benefit to Madison Academic High School and its community. This project will be decided on by the membership and approved by the officers, sponsor, and principal.Article VI – Dues and contributions The dues of this chapter will be twenty-five dollars per year. Contributions, (e.g., desserts for a spaghetti supper, supplies for convention preparations, etc.) will be provided by the membership to defray the costs of special undertakings. Article VII – Amending the By-Laws The by-laws of this chapter of The National Beta Club may be amended by a majority vote of the membership, provided the proposed amendment is placed before the club at a previous meeting. ................
