PPS Impact Private Practice Section, American Physical Therapy AssociationGuidelines for Authors – All Articles Impact magazine, published 11 times a year by the Private Practice Section (PPS) of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), is a primary source of information dedicated to fostering the growth, economic viability, and business success of physical therapist-owned physical therapy practices. Impact’s mission is to inform PPS members about pertinent topics, including practice management, membership benefits, legislative updates, committee and task force work, resources, and educational seminars. Impact also provides a forum to discuss professional issues and ideas. Impact encourages all members of the PPS community to contribute. Article ideas, practice profiles, newsworthy information, book reviews, letters to the editor, and opinions are always welcome, and may be sent to Angela Wilson Pennisi, PT, Managing Editor, at awp@.Article requirements:Recommended length (NB: one page = approximately 700 words):Feature and Cover Story articles: 800-1500 words Department articles and columns: 700-1000 wordsBook reviews/App review: 250-750 wordsSubmission should be typed, double-spaced, and submitted within the article submission form. Please do not use all-cap or italic type.Articles should be submitted as an email attachment, preferably in Microsoft Word.Articles should have a suggested headline at the top of the page and a 1-3 sentence executive summary of the article.Authors should provide byline and contact information, including: full name; title; degree(s), designator(s), and other credential(s); agency affiliation; location; and email and USPS addresses.Authors must include complete references when discussing particular concepts, principles, or statistics, cited in AMA format. Authors may suggest reading lists to accompany their articles.Articles submitted with graphs, charts, sample forms, or step-by-step sidebars that add to the practical applicability of the content for Impact readrs will receive the highest level of consideration for publication. Digital photographs may also be submitted in either black-and-white or color and must be of at least 300 dpi resolution Articles may not be self-promoting, nor may they promote products by name. When determined to be relevant and of interest to other PPS members, product reviews by members may be allowed at the discretion of the managing editor.Material published in Impact becomes the property of PPS and may not be published or reproduced, in whole or in part, without written permission. Requests for permission to reprint material published in Impact should be directed to the PPS office (privatepracticesection@ ). Any permitted publication, reprint, or reproduction of material published in Impact must reference Impact and indicate that it is property of PPS. Articles requested and written for a specific assignment should be sent to the Editorial Board member who made the request and who is responsible fore the assisgnment. All other articles, including unsolicited articles, may be sent to Margot Miller, PT, Assistant Managing Editor, at mmiller@ for review.Author represents and warrants that all submitted materials are the original work of the author, the author has no knowledge of any third party claims regarding any rights to the materials submitted, and that none of the materials submitted violate any rights of others including, without limitation, any copyrights or privacy rights, and that the materials are factually accurate. Author agrees that upon submission of the article and any related materials that the same become the property of PPS. Authors must complete and return the attached disclosure statement. The above requirements also are summarized in checklist format for the author’s final review. The disclosure responses do not impact whether an article is ultimately accepted for publication.Vendor-authors or vendor-sponsored articles:PPS vendors make valuable contributions to Impact every year by sharing their industry-specific expertise. ?Vendors are highly encouraged to access their health care provider clients and physical therapy private practice customers for contributions to Impact.?Vendor-submitted articles are limited to a maximum of two per year and must be received by the issue close date (which is separate from the advertising close date).Vendor-submitted articles are held to the same article guidelines described above when considered for publication.Vendor-submitted articles may detail how a specific program, service, or type of product can be used to enhance the business success or differentiation of a physical therapy private practice.?Specific programs, product brands, or company affiliations?may not be cited, favored, or endorsed in the article. ?Please email mmiller@ for editorial deadlines and suitable article topics. Author’s anticipated topic, target issue, and target submission date should be communicated with the initial inquiry. Please note: The issues fill up quickly and publication is not guaranteed, but articles will be carefully considered for publication based on the guidelines above, timeliness of topic, and date received. Early notification of the vendor’s intent to submit is advised. Following inquiry or article submission, Margot Miller, Assistant Managing Editor will communicate regarding suitability of the article for a particular issue.Editorial process:When an article is received, an acknowledgment is sent to the author. Following review by the managing editor and/or the Editorial Board, a decision is made on whether to publish the article.If the article is approved for publication, it is edited by Impact.The author may request a final review before publication.By submitting an article, including graphs, charts, sample forms, photographs, or other similar information, the author thereby consents to publication by Impact of any and all such submitted materials.Please contact PPS at (800) 517-1167 with any questions or concerns about writing for Impact.
