Important Vaccine Supply Changes
TO: All Users of State Supplied Vaccine
FROM: Jiancheng Huang, Program Director, Maine Immunization Program
DATE: February 15, 2007
SUBJECT: State Supplied Vaccine Changes
The intent of this communication is to inform you of important changes the Maine Immunization Program (MIP) has made in the supply of certain vaccines.
• State supplied vaccine may be used to support the second dose Varicella recommendation to any child through age 18. (Second dose of Varicella is not needed for children that have had break through disease after administration of the first dose.)
• Td will no longer be provided. Please order Tdap for the replacement of the Td booster for any child through age 18.
• State supplied HPV, Hepatitis A, RotaTeq, and Menactra vaccine is only for patients who meet at least one of the following criteria:
• Is enrolled in MaineCare
• Does not have health insurance
• Is American Indian or Alaskan Native OR
• Has Health insurance that Does Not pay for Vaccine (children must be vaccinated at a Federally Qualified Health Center or Rural Health Clinic)
• State supplied vaccine cannot be given to children over the age of 19. All doses in a series must be completed before the 19th birthday. If a series is not completed before the age of 19, non-state supplied vaccine must be used to complete the series.
Example: Patient received 1st and 2nd dose of Hep B before age 19 (State supplied can be used)
The same patient comes into the office after age 19 for the 3rd dose to complete the series (State supplied cannot be used)
• Attached is the list of vaccines that the MIP supplies.
• If you are an ImmPact Provider, vaccine administration has to be recorded in the Registry prior to reconciliation for inventory to calculate correctly.
Please call the Immunization Program at 1-800-867-4775 if you have any questions. Thank you.
