October, 2018…The Pastor’s Corner…Rev. Dr. Yunho Eo

The Path Unknown and Yet the Faith Assured for the Year 2019

One day of my meditation I wrote this…

“Waking up and coming up to the Lord! A new dawn appears before me. Outside is cloudy with hurricane Florence approaching. Yesterday, Joungwon was busy preparing food for today’s young parents’ gathering. I pray that this gathering will become a good chance for reaching the young people and making a group…”

Next year, 2019, I want to focus on Making Disciples through Training and Small Group Ministry. Paul was a disciple maker who started with one person.

“One of those listening was a woman from the city of Thyatira named Lydia, a dealer in purple cloth. She was a worshiper of God.” (Acts 16:14)

This one person who had a close relationship with the Lord became a point for Paul’s mission. So precious is one person! I believe the word from Isaiah 60:22,

“The least of you will become a thousand, the smallest a mighty nation.”

Then Apostles, a small group of disciples, led the church in early Christianity.

“Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their home and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved” (Acts 4:32).

The church is the body of Christ. Each part is so precious. I have seen healthy churches where most of the congregation are involved in the ministry. How? Through the Small Group! Let’s pray for building up a spiritually healthy church. I am ready to serve you as a servant for a church full of joy.

The journey of life is the unknown path like Abraham leaving his home town without having a detailed road map. And yet the VISION from God was in his heart that Abram, an ordinary man, became Abraham, the Father of all nations.

Therefore what we can be assured of is that God is walking along with us in every moment. So we sing, “Lord, I need You, oh, I need You; Every hour I need You; My one defense, my righteousness; Oh God, how I need You.”

District Training

Friday November 2, 6:15 PM - 10:15 PM and Saturday November 3, 8 AM - 5 PM at Willis UMC. Classes offered include Lay Servant Ministries Basic Course, Leading in Prayer, and Planning Worship.  Lunch and snacks will be provided by the Ladies at Willis UMC.

As we are all servants in Christ's ministry this is an excellent opportunity to gain and share knowledge with others and it is only 10 miles from our church.  You do not have to be or become a lay servant to take these classes.  They are open to all.  I highly recommend these classes.

The basic course is the course needed to become a lay servant in the UMC.  This course helps you learn how to witness to others and discover some of the strengths you have.  Rev. John Hall is leading the course and he is an excellent leader.

Leading In Prayer teaches about how to lead different kinds of prayer for groups.

Planning Worship is about the organization and flow of the worship service and different ways it can be done.

For registration information call 333-6402 or email .  You can also ask any questions of Theresa Duke.

FISH…

You continue to support FISH in many ways and I want to thank you for reaching out to help others.  We have several events coming up.  If you have items that you were unable to put into our church yard sale FISH offers you the opportunity to put them in the FISH yard sale that will be held on Thursday and Friday, October 11 and 12 at Village Presbyterian Church.  (This is the week following our church yard sale).

During October we will collect beef stew and brunswick stew for FISH.  Of course, you can donate any items you wish just be sure food items are within the expiration date.  Kirby and I will take the items to FISH.

We have a very special group of people that FISH likes to recognize annually.  These are our veterans.  FISH will have a benefit concert this year on Saturday, November 10 at Oak Hill Baptist Church.  Everyone is invited.  We will have a booklet at the concert listing all the organizations/businesses who wish to include an ad for their business to support FISH.  If you would like to support this concert and have your business listed in the booklet see Pam or Kirby to complete a short form.   1/4 page ad is $25, 1/2 page ad is $50 and a full page advertisement is $100.  Also, YOU can honor and recognize individual veterans in this booklet with a $10 donation or simply make a donation to FISH.  All the money from these ads, memorials and contributions to honor our veterans will go to support FISH.  I will put the booklet from last year in the narthex for you to see.  The forms to place an ad, and to have a special vet “in honor or in memory of” listed in the program will also be in the narthex.  Please see Pam and Kirby with any questions.
