Hunting and Fishing Regulations
Welcome Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) is one of over 566 refuges in the National Wildlife Refuge System ? a network of lands managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and set aside to conserve wildlife and habitat for people to enjoy today and for generations to come.
The Refuge is located 37 miles north of Green River, Wyoming. The Refuge office and visitor center are open Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, except on Federal holidays.
Hunting and fishing on the Refuge are permitted in accordance with Federal and State regulations. Please familiarize yourself with the following information to help ensure a safe and enjoyable visit.
Special Refuge Regulations Visitors should review the Refuge general information brochure to become familiar with all Refuge regulations.
Report violations to the Refuge office or the Wyoming Game and Fish Poaching Hotline at 1 800 / 442 4331.
The Refuge is open to the public from one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.
Collecting or removing antlers, and other natural and historical artifacts from the Refuge is prohibited.
Vehicle traffic is restricted to designated roads, as shown in the Refuge general information brochure. All motorized vehicles must be registered for highway use. Off-road vehicles are prohibited. Vehicles must be parked in designated parking areas, pullouts, or within 10 feet of designated roads. Overnight parking and camping are not allowed on the Refuge. The speed limit is 25 mph, unless posted otherwise.
Limited trapping opportunities may be available on the Refuge by special permit only. Contact the Refuge Manager for additional information.
Most watercraft will require purchase of a current Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) decal and may require a mandatory inspection before launching. This program is administered by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department. To purchase an AIS decal, arrange for a boat inspection, or for questions visit:
Special Hunting Regulations Hunting is permitted in designated areas for mule deer, white-tailed deer, elk, pronghorn, moose, ducks, coots, dark geese, sage grouse, mergansers, mourning doves, cottontail rabbits, snipe, rails, skunks, red fox, jackrabbits, and raccoons in accordance with Wyoming State law. Hunting prairie dogs, coyotes, and any other species not listed above is prohibited.
There are several areas on the Refuge that are closed to hunting. Become familiar with the boundaries of hunting units before going afield.
Licensed waterfowl hunters may enter the Refuge 1 hour before legal shooting hours to set up decoys or blinds.
Only portable blinds or blinds constructed from dead, downed wood may be used. Cutting of standing live or dead vegetation or digging pit blinds are prohibited. Only portable tree stands which do not damage trees are permitted. All blinds, tree stands, and decoys must be removed from the Refuge daily.
Persons possessing, transporting, or carrying firearms on National Wildlife Refuge System lands must comply with all provisions of State law. Persons may only use (discharge) firearms in accordance with refuge regulations (50 CFR 27.42 and specific refuge regulations in 50 CFR 32.70).
Federally approved non-toxic shot is required for all shotgun hunting. Possession of lead shotgun shells while hunting is prohibited.
Off-road vehicle travel is not permitted for retrieving game.
Dogs must be confined or leashed, except when hunting for game birds.
Ammunition casings are litter. Littering on the Refuge is prohibited.
Commercial guiding for any hunting activity is prohibited.
Use or possession of alcohol while hunting is prohibited.
Special Fishing Regulations Fishing on the Green River from the CCC Bridge on County Road 8 (2? miles upstream of the northern boundary of the Refuge) to the confluence with the Big Sandy River (5 miles downstream of the Highway 28 bridge) has the following additional State regulations: only artificial flies and lures may be used; creel limit is one trout per day or in possession; and all trout less than 20 inches must be immediately released. Please refer to the Wyoming State Fishing Regulations for more information. Commercial guiding on the Refuge
requires a special use permit. General State creel limits and
regulations apply downstream of the Green River's confluence with the Big Sandy River.
