You have probably seen various kinds of trading cards. Some of these feature sports figures and include information about the player, statistics relating to his or her skill as an athlete, and a picture. Or perhaps you’ve received a postcard from a friend or family member telling you about a great destination they are visiting on with a beautiful picture on the front.

Your job is to create a set of trading cards or post cards (your choice) for the objects in our solar system including: 1) each planet (except for Earth), (7 cards)

2) a card for asteroids and for comets, (2 cards)

3) and one other object of your choice in the universe. (1 card)

Materials needed: Ten pieces of card stock, colored pencils.

Procedure:

1. Gather the information required below and make “standard/uniform” design for your cards.

On the front of the card, please put:

• The name of your planet or solar system object

• An completely and accurately colored picture. Color the background as well.

• For planets: the location and “God of ___”.

On the back of the card, please include: (Bulleted lists are fine for trading cards, for postcards: describe the list in paragraph form as if you are visiting.)

• The name of your planet or object

• The diameter of your planet/object

• Your planet’s/object’s distance from the sun in A.U. (Astronomical Units) and kilometers.

• Your planet’s rotational period. (in Earth hours or day)

• Your planet’s orbital period. (in Earth days or years)

• Your planet’s high and low surface temperature (find range in Celsius). Gas planet temp . at cloud tops

• Number of moons.

• Five other interesting facts about your planet/object. You may want to include any known satellites or missions to observe your planet and whether it’s rocky or gaseous.

NOTE

***For objects other than a planet, include things such as: definition, location, characteristics or descriptions, when/who discovered, current research, how does it work?

***For postcards, write the information in the form of a paragraph, describing what to your trip is like. Be sure to address your card and draw a stamp on it!

***All information must be in your own words… not copied and pasted!!
