Transportation Supervisor

Description of Position:

This position is 5 hours per day, following the student calendar. The successful

candidate will be the Router/Dispatcher for the transportation department. The successful candidate will route

and dispatch school bus and van drivers using the two-way radio, phones, maps and computer. The

Router/Dispatcher will respond to inquiries from parents, students, staff and community. The

Router/Dispatcher will assist in the coordination of managing the office and scheduling workloads and

activities.

Essential Job Functions:

This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon

individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:

? Prepare all bus routes and maps using VersaTrans Routing software

? Maintain a calm demeanor when communicating on two-way radio and phone; coordinating with

drivers, staff and parents

? Develops, implements and monitors bus routes, runs and stops for peak safety and efficiency

? Keep all route books up to date

? Dispatches bus drivers and assigns substitute drivers as needed for the purpose of ensuring that all

routes are covered for the transportation of students.

? Maintain daily route log scheduling workloads and activities

? Provide route information and instruction to substitutes

? Prepare Trip Sheet, Destination Sheet and directions for all field trips, away sports games and

extracurricular activities.

? Assigns field trips, away sports games and extracurricular activities and forwards appropriate

information to the Business Office for billing of the trips

? Works with District administrative staff to ensure that special trip requests are accommodated to the

best degree

? Use Skyward and VersaTrans Routing to lookup student information

? Responds to inquiries from students, parents and/or staff for stop locations, schedules, for the purpose

of providing the necessary information regarding transportation services

? May be called upon to drive a school bus or other District vehicle in emergency situations or on a relief

basis, as needed

? Gather and process monthly transportation staff timesheets and submit to administrative staff

Participate in meetings, in-service trainings, workshops etc. as required for the purpose of conveying

and or gathering information required to perform the job functions

Schedule the use of District vans and cars

Keep a database of all discipline issues on the buses

Order materials and supplies

Perform other duties as assigned by Transportation Supervisor

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

? High school diploma or equivalent.

? Must have a valid Washington State driver¡¯s license with an acceptable driving record

? Must have, or be eligible to obtain, a Washington CDL with school bus endorsements

? Preference will be given to candidates who completed the Driver Instructor Training Course

? Preference will be given to candidates with experience in Driver Training

? Preference will be given to candidates who completed the CWU Pupil Transportation Management

Program

? A skills and abilities test will be given to all candidates and used, in part, to determine knowledge and

abilities

? Ability to complete District required training within 60 days of employment.

? Valid CPR/First Aid Card and/or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of

employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

? Knowledge of bus routing software ¨C Versatrans experience is preferred

? Knowledge, experience, and skill using computers and various software programs and all office

equipment; proficiency in Word and Excel

? Ability to practice ethical and professional standards of conduct, including the requirements to maintain a

high degree of confidentiality

? Skills in verbal and written communication and ability to maintain good working relations with coworkers, staff, students, parents and community members.

? Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision

? Ability to read, write, speak and communicate effectively

? Ability to maintain a calm demeanor when communicating with bus drivers via two-way radio and with

parents, students and staff over the phone

? Ability to read, analyze and interpret laws, regulations and reports specific to the department or program

? Possess excellent interpersonal skills; an ability to communicate effectively and efficiently with parents,

students, co-workers, administrators, and outside agencies

? Ability to interact positively, be flexible, organized, problem solve, exercise sound judgment, tact,

diplomacy, integrity and maintain professionalism in communicating and working with staff, parents,

students and community

? Ability to independently respond to complex and problematic situations and remain calm in stressful

situations

? Ability to exercise sensitivity in dealing with individuals of diverse socio-economic backgrounds, cognitive

and physical abilities as well as with individuals of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds

? Ability to provide, collaborate and contribute to a healthy work environment

? Ability to maintain accurate files and records

? Knowledge of district policies and procedures
