Parer’s installation at Cheekwood will feature the world debut of two new “XL” bunnies, each standing 40 feet tall. Amanda Parer uses oversized bunnies to draw attention to the natural world, its fragility and our role within it. Through these precocious bunnies, visitors experience captivating works of art as well as engage in an ecological dialogue. The 18th-century introduction of European rabbits to Parer’s native Australia resulted in a rapidly escalating continent-wide epidemic that persists today. Though intentionally cute and seemingly innocent, these figures also represent the global conversation surrounding invasive species and their ability to alter natural habitats. Cheekwood will offer programming throughout the month to accompany Amanda Parer: Intrude, like real bunnies during its weekly Tuesdays for Tots, a Glowga evening yoga event, a Silent Disco, and a Hip Hop Dance Party. While Parer’s bunnies are impressive to see during the day, the experience changes as the sun sets. Cheekwood will stay open until 10 p.m. on Thursday and Friday evenings throughout the month of May for guests to experience the rabbits lit up at night. Viewers can enjoy a special Hoppy Hour, featuring craft cocktails, food trucks, lawn games and live music while Parer’s work is on view. Amanda Parer: Intrude will be on view May 1 - 27, 2018. The exhibition is included with membership and with general admission for all future members. Timed ticket entries are encouraged for the evening Hoppy Hour, and can be reserved online at .
