Performance standards/Objectives

The following is covered by the Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) Curriculum.

The objective is to help students to better understand the history and story of America.

Strategies for Student Learning

Notebook: In my class you need to keep a folder/notebook. I recommend a 3 ring binder.

Notebook tabs should be the same as the grade breakdown on the following page. From home, I strongly recommend a US History folder. I the USH folder, create a folder for each unit. Units can be found on the next page of the syllabus.

Youtube “channel”

• Below is the address for the notes that are voiced over if you need them when absent or for review

Assignment/Readings/Homework

• Notes are done by power point

• ALL notes are posted on the blog. The blog will be your primary source in finding information that is due etc. CTLS will be used, but the blog will show EXACTLY what is what for each day to reduce on confusion.

• Note Outline Packets: Every unit has a note packet and study guide. Normally I provide these for you at the start of every unit. Each unit will have a word and pdf file that you can download and use how you choose. They are lengthy. It is NOT required that you print

• Assignments will be posted on the 1st day of each unit. All unit assignments are due by the test date of that unit (late work is addressed below)

• them. If you choose to follow or use the outline and do not print them, I advise that maybe you consider using the word file to type in the information you need and save it to a US History/Unit file.

• My plan is to also record myself on the PowerPoints for you to be able to go back to or even use if you are out a day etc.

• Turning in work:

o This is something we are working on, but…

▪ Should be able to turn work in through CTLS

▪ If there is an issue, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me, we can work it out.

▪ Advice: download a “scanner” app to your phone. There are cheap ones and free ones. That way you can scan a picture of your work and instantly make it into a pdf file. Much easier for emailing and downloading.

▪ All work that is being emailed must have your name on it as well as the name of the assignment. Include the name of the assignment in your attachment/email

▪ If you need to email the assignment, indicate who you are. Not all emails have your name it!

Make up work

Homework/Class work you will have until the next unit test to make up and return for EXCUSED absences. It is your responsibility to ask for missing work. The same policy applies for Tests. Late will work will have a 15-point penalty!

• NO LATE work will be accepted after the day of the next unit test. (15 point penalty)

o For example: U1 work will not be accepted after we take the U2 test)

ONLINE – Distance Learning

There will be set deadlines. In many cases these will be digitally set and will close after the designated time. If at any point you see an issue that is unexpected and arise, if at all possible, let me know ahead of time so we can work out a solution.

Just like in person learning, there will be a 15 point penalty when and where it applies.

Academic Honesty

NO CHEATING! I have no tolerance for cheating. If you are seen copying you and the person you copied form will receive a grade of “1”. “1” because when your parent asks what is this one is for I can respond with “cheating or enabling someone else to cheat!”. SAME APPLIES FOR SLEEPING DURING CLASS AND OR VIDEOS. JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE “DONE” DOESN’T MEAN WE ARE!!!”

Plagiarism. DO NOT copy and paste from websites. This primarily is for our essays. You MUST cite the source and give credit to and from where the information came. I am not hung up on any particular system of citing, but will need to see the source from where your information came from. Any such work that is plagiarized will not be graded. I have full discretion on what will / can be accepted.

Books

McGraw Hill, United States History and Geography, 2018. There is an internet resource for this book and is online. Use your student vue account and or the blog to access. CTLS (where you access your classes and view live streaming) also has your text book. Hopefully it will be easier to access. Here is the link that was used in the past (just in case):

Make ups for tests and quizzes are or will be held on Wednesday’s.

• You must notify Coach Storey when you need to make up an item.

o You are expected to stay on the zoom and camera up during the test and or make up tests etc.

ONLINE – Distance Learning

• Yet to be determined how we will handle this. More than likely this will be a time that you and I work something out through communicating our situations

Every attempt is made to stay with what is printed, but things do occur that tend to slightly throw us of schedule. Due dates will also be posted on the blog as well.
