Parents, October 2020We are starting the 2nd semester of 2nd grade and I would like you to know that I am working hard to bring you the resources that will help prepare your child for 3rd grade. I need your assistance in making sure that your child does their daily required assignments. To facilitate that, I am including a schedule of what they should work on in a 2-week cycle for reading and a 1-week cycle for math, science, and social studies. They need to see what their responsibilities are and learn to become strong, driven, independent learners. My hopes for them are that each one be successful in all their endeavors but as parents, we need to release some of that responsibility to them to do so. They are growing up fast and sometimes it may be difficult to keep up with all the changes but know that I am here to support you. Please remain in communication with me and let me know how I can assist you this school year to help your child succeed.3rd grade will be double the workload and intensity that 2nd grade is. I will let you know that vocabulary and informational text have always been the areas that children in third struggle with the most. To improve in vocabulary, children must be exposed to various genres. One way to do this is to READ everyday and include a variety in what you read. MyOn is great for fiction. For informational text I have provided you with a digital subscription this year to Scholastic News (covering current issues in our community and around the world from a child’s perspective) and Science Spin (leading current issues in science and technology around the world). Instructions on how to access these magazines digitally are attached at the end.We must encourage our children to work on their assignments each day for them to be fully prepared for the S.A.T. in April, I-Ready Diagnostic 3 in May, and 3rd grade in August of 2021. I have offered you valuable resources to help your child succeed. I ask that you take part in making sure they do what they need to do. Thank you for your support.Ms. MoreraWeek 1MondayTuesdayWednesdayThursdayFridayReading/Language Arts/WritingDigital: One i-ready reading lesson, two practices from McGraw-HillLive Session: participation in practices and written assignments completed as instructed daily by the teacher.Digital: One i-ready reading lesson, two practices from McGraw-HillLive Session: participation in practices and written assignments completed as instructed daily by the teacher.Digital: One i-ready reading lesson, two practices from McGraw-HillLive Session: participation in practices and written assignments completed as instructed daily by the teacher.Digital: One i-ready reading lesson, two practices from McGraw-HillLive Session: participation in practices and written assignments completed as instructed daily by the teacher.Digital: Complete i-ready minutes for the week, two practices from McGraw-HillLive Session: participation in practices and written assignments completed as instructed daily by the teacher.*Read at least 2 books per week on MyOn and do the quiz at the end.Week 2MondayTuesdayWednesdayThursdayFridayReadingDigital: One i-ready reading lesson, two practices from McGraw-HillLive Session: participation in practices and written assignments completed as instructed daily by the teacher.Digital: One i-ready reading lesson, complete practices from McGraw-HillLive Session: participation in practices and written assignments completed as instructed daily by the teacher.*Study for testDigital: Work on completing i-ready minutes.Live Session:Unit TestUpon completion of tests, work on “Your Turn Practice Workbook” for current unit tested.
