Dear Parents and Guardians,

Huron County Health Department has notified us on November 8, 2020 of a probable or confirmed COVID-19 case amongst students, teachers, staff members, coaches, volunteers, or any other person who was present on North Huron School property or at a school function under circumstances that may result in the transmission or contraction of COVID-19 during their infectious period.

·         Cleaning and disinfecting of the exposed location have been completed.

 ·         If your child was in close contact with a confirmed individual, you will be contacted by the Huron County Health Department. Please take their call and follow the recommendations they provide.

·         All confirmed cases should be isolated and close contacts quarantined for 14 days from last exposure in order to prevent illness in new persons. “Close contact” means being a household member, intimate contact, or caregiver of a confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case; within 6 feet of the confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case for more than 15 minutes, even if wearing a non-medical face covering; or having unprotected contact with the infected person’s body fluids and/or secretions, for example, being coughed or sneezed on.

·         Please note that all information, including the name(s) of ill persons, is confidential in order to protect patient privacy.

·         In accordance with MDHHS Emergency Order Under MCL 333.2253 – Reporting of Confirmed and Probable Cases of COVID-19 at Schools, This notice has been posted within 24 hours to the district website on November 9, 2020 at 9:00 a.m.

As the safety of our students and staff is our number one concern, while we wait for test results on the individuals in question, we have decided to proactively practice remote learning with our students and are adjusting the schedule for the week of November 9th. Therefore, Monday, November 9th will be a half day for students with dismissal at 12:30 p.m. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday students will practice remote learning with teaching staff providing instruction from their classrooms. This will give us a good opportunity to practice with technology purchased for the purpose of remote instruction.  At this point, we have been able to provide chromebooks to students in grades 1-12. Parents of 6-12 students have already signed the usage agreement for the devices. Parents of Kindergarten-5 grade students will be asked to complete that document as soon as it is available.  Students will be bringing the devices home with them tomorrow from school. Parents and students should also review the attached document which details Google classroom expectations for students.

The following is a list of details that we hope will answer questions that you may have about your student’s learning schedule this week:

·         Students will follow an abbreviated learning schedule on Tuesday-Thursday

·         Secondary students’ instruction will be from 9:45 a.m. – 2:20 p.m. Students should check their school email account for a more detailed schedule.

·         Elementary students’ instruction will be from 8:30 a.m. – Noon. Classroom teachers will post a schedule in their Google classrooms.

·         The North Huron Early Learning Center will remain open and follow the regular schedule. This includes infants, toddlers, 3 & 4 year olds and GSRP students.

·         Secondary students are reminded that they should be checking their school email accounts for information or directions from teachers and administrators.

·         Tech Center and dual enrollment students will attend their classes. TAT buses will take students to and from the Tech Center as they normally do. Transportation to and from school will be provided for any student that needs the service.

·         Students in grades 1-12 should be bringing home a chromebook that has been assigned to them to be able to access Google classroom(s).

·         Lunches for the three days will be delivered to homes.

·         Families will be notified no later than 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2020 as to whether or not we will return to face to face instruction on Monday, November 16, 2020.

As mentioned previously teachers will be providing instruction from school.  All administrative, office and support staff will be onsite as well. Please contact either the Elementary or Secondary Office during their regular hours if you have any questions or concerns regarding the information in this notice.  For additional questions about COVID-19, please visit the Huron County Health Department at .
