I want you to know how much I appreciate your time. You gave 2,000 students the opportunity to experience a live orchestral performance. Thank you for your positive attitude and hard work.” Central Catholic High School:“This past weekend, thanks to your help, we were able to successfully bring the community an educational and fun filled afternoon at our Annual Multicultural Festival held at Central Catholic. This event has been a great community builder and a positive way to give awareness, of the diversity and culture in our community, moreover expressing unity. Thank you for sharing of your time & talents to the Multicultural Festival for 2017. Your generosity has given folks in the community an opportunity to taste, experience, and prepare families & students for the diverse society they participate in beyond the campus experience. Because of generous people like yourself, this event was made possible and a success. This year we raised over $3500, WOW what a blessing! I will meet with LCSS principals to discuss how these funds can help to carry on culturally educating people in our community. Frankly, we could not do this without you. The festival committee, and I, sincerely appreciate your generosity.” Polar Bear Plunge:“It has been almost a month since the 2017 Special Olympics Indiana, West Lafayette Polar Plunge and I want to finally thank you all for volunteering this year!? Many of you have volunteered in polar plunges in prior years -- THNX again!? This fundraising event truly could not be 'pulled off' without you and the many others like you no matter the volunteer position you/your group filled.” ?Mental Health America“The clients and I love when Boiler OUT comes! Your volunteers are wonderful. “Food Finders“I just wanted to thank you for all of the interest that you’ve garnered for Food Finders over the last year since I’ve been here. It is very much noticed and appreciated.”Cumberland Elementary School“We can't thank you and the volunteers enough for your time and commitment to International Family Art Night. It was a great success and we could not have done it without you and the Boiler Out Program!” A sampling of students’ experiences:“There is so much need in such a small city like Lafayette that can use volunteers. Sometimes people think they have to travel in order to do good, but in fact, a lot can be done in the city be study in.”“From volunteering, I saw more similarities than differences between my culture and American culture. The spirit we shared by helping people is the same from students with different backgrounds and nationality.”“Helping with middle school international festival helped me learn about the cultures from Japan, Indonesia, Europe, etc. Moreover, making friends with people in our volunteer group can help me understand their cultures.”“I learned that communication is important for teamwork. Communication is not about the fluency of language, it's about an ability to understand each other and stand in others' shoes.”“Through volunteering, I have learned the importance of giving back to the community and helping others. The interaction among group members or those we are volunteering with, you can learn a lot about the community and where you fit in to it. I enjoy helping and getting a better sense of community. By immersing myself into situations, I feel that I am bettering the community and making someone else's life a little better.”“I learnt that I really do like giving my time to the community, and the fact that volunteering is one of my interests. I love working with people and even other mediums, and helping the community around me. I learnt a lot this semester about various ways to help the community, and realized that I like to do different activities around the community and explore various cultures, issues and problems that I would otherwise be unaware of. It has encouraged me to keep helping the community and push myself to delve into different mediums of helping.”“I loved going to Natalie's Second Chance and becoming close with an individual animal at that shelter. Those pets just need love and that's what I wanted to do.”“I enjoyed volunteering with the Homeless Shelter. I've never have a direct contact with the homeless. After knowing this organization's mission and how they use the resource to help a lot of the homeless getting their own apartment, I find it meaningful to use the power of the community to really help out those in need.”“I really enjoyed helping NICHES remove invasive species at the haul and burn event because it's a problem I care about.”“The most memorable was when I did 'singing valentines' in one of the retirement house. It moves me when a simple gesture as handing cards and off key singing can be so enjoyable for the elderlies that live there, some even teared up! which made me kinda emotional too.”“Food finder food bank as always is my favorite volunteer event.”“It was fun to go out of Purdue campus and interact with local people.” ................
