Welcome to the University of Aberdeen Diversity Calendar 2019

The calendar will let you see when some of the key dates for diversity are during the year, so we can work together to create an inclusive and respectful campus.

The Equality and Diversity Team are working towards 4 main aims:

1

2

The principles of Equality and Diversity will be a day-to-day consideration within all of the University's activities, both strategically and operationally;

Sta will have greater understanding of their responsibilities in Equality and Diversity and apply this in their practice to positively advance equality;

3

The University will be an inclusive community where sta and students are able to fulfil their full potential in their work or studies;

4

The diversity of the University community will be celebrated and recognised so that all sta and students are respected and valued.

To meet these outcomes, the university is engaged with a full agenda of equality initiatives.

Our successes with the Athena SWAN Charter indicate a strong commitment to gender equality and our improving performance in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index demonstrates progress in making the campus a welcoming and tolerant environment for LGBT sta and students.

Our equality networks (LGBT, Disability, Senior Women, Parents, Menopause, BSL) are thriving and provide a great opportunity to input to University policy and to meet colleagues from across the University.

Join us during the University's Inclusion Week 4-8 March 2019 to celebrate the diversity across our campuses and learn more about how we can all contribute to an inclusive environment.

The new British Sign Language Action Plan (BSL), fully translated into BSL, and our status as a Disability Positive Employer supports our disabled sta and students.

More information can be found on the Equality web page: abdn.ac.uk/sta net/governance/equality-and-diversity-277.php

If you have any suggestions regarding equality and diversity or wish to find out more or get involved please contact Janine Chalmers, Equality and Diversity Adviser, by e-mail janine.chalmers@abdn.ac.uk or Dr Maria-Grazia Cascio, Athena SWAN Co-ordinator by e-mail m.cascio@abdn.ac.uk
