Call to Worship: Psalm 133:1, Ephesians 4:4-5 ......................................................................... John Thornton

Leader: How very good and pleasant it is when sisters and brothers live together in unity.

People: There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is above all and through all and in all.

Leader: Together, let us worship God.

Choral Introit: One Faith, One Hope, One Lord ............................................................................. C. Courtney

Sanctuary Choir

One faith, one hope, one Lord, one church for which he died, one voice, one song we lift in praise to him who was and is and shall be evermore. There is one body, one spirit, as you were called to one hope, one Lord, baptism and faith, one God and Father of all, who is in you all. One faith, one hope, one Lord, one church for which he died, one voice, one song we lift in praise to him who was and is and shall be evermore. Though we be many people, diverse with various gifts, we are given to each other for the unity of faith, that we grow in the knowledge of the Son of God, in the fullness of Christ.

*Hymn 357: O Praise the Gracious Power ............................................................................................ MARION

Passing of the Peace ................................................................................................................. John Thornton

Leader: May the peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you.

Prayer for Illumination: Speak, O Lord ..................................................................................... SPEAK, O LORD

Old Testament Lesson: Genesis 32:22-32 (Pew Bible, OT, p.23).............................................................. Bo Drew

Leader: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God.

Prayer of Confession ............................................................................................................ Emily Hull McGee

Leader: Let us confess our sins in the presence of the One who blesses us and meets our need.

People:

God of compassion, we are sick. We have wrestled all night with worry instead of resting in you. We have asserted our own goodness instead of awakening to yours. We have turned away those hungry for your help instead of trusting you and feeding them from your limitless supply of blessings. Forgive us, heal us, and help us to hold on to you. We call upon you, for you will answer us, O God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Words of Assurance: Psalm 30:5 .......................................................................................... Emily Hull McGee

Leader:

God's anger is but for a moment; God's favor is for a lifetime. Weeping may linger for the night, but joy comes with the morning. Sisters and brothers, hear the good news: In Jesus Christ we are forgiven.

People: Thanks be to God!

Celebration of Forgiveness: Joy in the Morning ................................................................................ N. Sleeth

Sanctuary Choir

Joy, there'll be joy in the morning. There'll be joy in the morning on that day. For the daylight will dawn when the darkness is gone, there'll be joy in the morning on that day. There'll be peace and contentment evermore. Every heart, every voice will then rejoice, there'll be peace and contentment evermore. And the glory of the Lord will shine, and the glory of the Lord will bring the truth divine. There'll be love and forgiveness everywhere, and the way of the Lord will that day be restored, there'll be love, sweet love everywhere. There'll be love and forgiveness everywhere, and the way of the Lord will that day be restored. There'll be love and forgiveness, there'll be peace and contentment, there'll be joy!

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

CHURCH-WIDE ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL Our church-wide Sunday School will resume July 8 after our break for our Patriotic Brunch on Sunday, July 1. We are encouraging folks to think about the things we've discussed during our study of the Adam Hamilton book "Making Sense of the Bible," and come up with questions they would like to see our teaching team tackle in upcoming weeks. You may jot down your questions on the index cards provided in class or simply email Pastor Emily at ehullmcgee@. We look forward to talking about what you want to talk about as we understand the Bible more fully together!

PATRIOTIC BRUNCH IS JULY 1 The church family is invited to our annual Patriotic Brunch on Sunday, July 1, at 9:15 am in Kelly Auditorium. Please bring a breakfast item to share! Breakfast casseroles, sweet breads, bagels, donuts, or fruit would be most appreciated. Please note that we will not have access to any warming apparatus, so hot dishes should be brought ready to serve. Please bring serving utensils as well. Our fellowship together will conclude with a time of prayer, song, and thanksgiving for our country and the freedoms we enjoy. There will be no regular Sunday School that morning. All are welcome!

RESTORE REDUCE RENOVATE REIMAGINE Parking Changes at First Baptist

in Effect July 2 In preparation for the construction work to begin on July 2 at our building, we have learned from Frank L. Blum (our construction contractors) that the entirety of our back parking lot will be closed off for the duration of asbestos abatement and demolition of Buildings B & C. This is to create the space necessary to house all the construction equipment needed for this work and to ensure the safety of all folks entering and exiting the building.

We learned this week from our contractors that the total length of time for abatement and demolition will last around 10 weeks. Parking in the back lot throughout Phase One will be limited, but only during abatement and demolition will it be entirely off-limits. This will also impact our entry points into Building A, and we will give you that information as soon as we know it.

Thus, starting Monday, July 2, and continuing until further notice, when you come to the church house for worship on Sundays or should you visit during the week, parking for the congregation is available in the following locations on or around our block:

The parking lot of the John 3:16 building at the corner of 6th and Poplar (anytime)

The Winston-Salem Journal parking lot and adjacent gravel lot at the corner of 5th and Spruce (Sundays)

Street parking at meters on 5th Street and Spruce Streets (anytime)

Street parking on Poplar Street (Sundays)

Within a block or two of the church are several parking garages and other surface lot options should you need them. Thank you for your patience and flexibility in this impending season of transition!

This week around the church house...

Thanks to the tremendous work of Sally Barbour, our church accountant, some fifty years worth of church records that had been kept but were

no longer needed have been cleaned out and shredded!

Another team of volunteers (led tirelessly by our summer ministerial intern, Stephanie Manasa) relocated the children's ministry classrooms this week! Starting this Sunday, June 24, the nursery for infants, toddlers, and 2s will be located in room 104, on the ground floor of Building A just off the breezeway on the Poplar Street side. Starting July 8, all remaining children (3s through 5th grade) will be located in the former youth loft on the 3rd floor. Starting this fall, the youth group will gather in the Baraca Room.

Members of the church staff and a team of volunteers completed a final walkthrough of the buildings in advance of Saturday's auction.
