KAPOW VIRTUAL KAPOW PROGRAM AND VIRTUAL PLANNING MEETING INSTRUCTIONS.Welcome to another KAPOW school year 20-21. We are so happy to have mostly all our KAPOW schools and business partners back despite these challenging times. We are very pleased to announce the launch of the Virtual KAPOW Program. This program will function almost the same as the in person KAPOW program with some very minor tweaks. There will be no need for anyone to attend an in person KAPOW Training or Planning Meeting. Those have all been virtual and will continue to be for the rest of the school year. Here is how the KAPOW Virtual Program will workLessons?will be virtual until the district says otherwise.?All KAPOW teachers will be responsible for sending the calendar invite and meeting link for volunteers to access the KAPOW lesson and see their class of students and teacher.?All KAPOW Miami Dade and Broward county public schools and Charter schools will use Microsoft Teams, Zoom or some other video platform. Please find out from your teacher what the video platform is.??When schools open in Phase 2 the school district will not /may not allow volunteers on campus. Please check with your teacher on the status of this. This is also pending administration approval.?If school administration does not approve volunteers on campus, volunteers can continue to keep the KAPOW lessons virtual for the rest of the year. Teachers can project the volunteer on their white board for the lessons to be done virtually.?Volunteers do not have to go in person to teach KAPOW if they are not ready. They can do KAPOW virtually for the rest of the year. Teachers are to check with volunteers about their ability to do in person lessons.?In person work site visits (field trips) will happen when the county moves to Phase 3 reopening. Phase 1 and 2 will be only virtual field trips. If and when the county moves to Phase 3 and the host business partner does not authorize students to come on to their property in person, we will be asking our business partners to consider hosting a?VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPHow do you connect with your partner?All KAPOW volunteers and teachers will be receiving an official KAPOW Connection email introducing them to their partner. The name of the school, contact information of your partner, grade level, volunteer registration information and more details will be included. Many of you already received this email already.When you receive your ‘connection email,” each of you are to reach out to your partner to schedule a VIRTUAL planning meeting with each other to SCHEDULE 7 dates and times to have the volunteers do the lessons virtually (or in person IF/WHEN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT PERMITS IT). You may reach out by EMAIL, CELL PHONE OR TEXT.PLEASE HAVE YOUR work CALENDAR, BLANK SCHEDULE SHEET, the KAPOW online CURRICULUM OPEN ON YOUR COMPUTER FOR THE PLANNING MEETING. These documents will be included in the KAPOW connection email plus an example of a completed schedule sheet for reference. We will not be sending any curriculum books. Everyone will use the online curriculum. If you have a KAPOW book from last year and you are teaching the same grade level this year you may use your book.ResourcesAll KAPOW lesson worksheets, the letter home to be sent by the teacher at the end of lesson one and the lesson tests are being converted to word documents for the students to type directly into. This will make it easy for them submitting documents to the teacher. The rest of the KAPOW lessons will remain as PDF’s.Please do NOT wait for your partner to call you first. Go ahead and reach out.
