Presenter BiographiesEric Mancini, MD- Dr. Mancini is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in all areas of sports medicine including shoulder, hip, and knee arthroscopy; rotator cuff repair; shoulder instability; ACL reconstruction; and shoulder, knee, and hip replacement. Dr. Mancini graduated with honors from University of Michigan in 2006 and completed his medical training at Wayne State University School of Medicine in 2011. He performed his orthopedic surgery residency at Wayne State University/ Detroit Medical Center where he was chief resident. He completed a sports medicine fellowship at the Kerlan Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles, California. Dr. Mancini has worked with many college and professional sports teams, including serving as assistant team doctor for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Rams, Kings, Sparks, Anaheim Ducks, USC Trojans Football and Loyola Marymount University.Sarah Wolf, DO- Dr. Wolf is a Board Certified internal medicine physician specializing in those aged 18 and older. She attended Michigan State University where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degree. She then received her medical degree at Michigan State College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her internal medicine residency at Detroit Medical Center Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital in Commerce, MI, where she served as chief resident.Rachel Burmeister, MSN, FNP-C- Rachel Burmeister is an AANP Board Certified family nurse practitioner. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Michigan State University and her Master of Science in Nursing at Frontier Nursing University in Kentucky. She brings with her a nursing background in perianestheisa, cardiac progressive care, and cardiothoracic critical care. During her clinical education she has worked with doctors, nurse practitioners, and midwives caring for patients in primary care, family medicine, and women’s health.Anthony Bozzio, MD- Dr. Bozzio specializes in surgical treatment of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. Dr. Bozzio has experience in all aspects of spine surgery including: disc replacement, corrective revision surgery, decompression, discectomy, minimally invasive spinal surgery, fusion, treatment of scoliosis and spine deformity, compression fractures, and spine trauma. Dr. Bozzio also practices general orthopedics.Dr. Bozzio completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Utah in 2007 and earned his Doctor of Medicine from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in 2011. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Colorado and was awarded a spine fellowship at Texas Back Institute in Plano, Texas, where he practiced prior to joining Bay Street Orthopedics. Dr. Bozzio was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor – Department of Surgery by Michigan State University in January of 2018.Eugene Wang, DO- Dr. Wang serves as the President of Harborside Spine and Sports Center as well as the Medical Director for Northern Michigan Substance Abuse Services Recovery Center, a nonprofit opiate addiction treatment center. He is a graduate of Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine and did his residency training at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. His clinical interests include interventional pain management, musculoskeletal regenerative medicine, and addiction medicine.Logan Hanson, DO- A board-eligible orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Hanson graduated from Oakland University, Cum Laude, in 2009 with a major of Science and minor of Health Sciences. He completed medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Bioscience (KCUMB) graduating in 2013, followed by surgical residency at Beaumont Farmington Hills Hospital.Dr. Hanson’s practice focuses on hip and knee osteoarthritis with specialized training in total knee arthroplasty and anterior total hip arthroplasty. He also treats a variety of general orthopaedic conditions including fracture care and sports injuries.Todd Sheperd, MD- Dr. Sheperd is certified with the American Board of Family Medicine, with additional certification in Primary Care Sports Medicine. He received his undergraduate degree from Northern Michigan University. He completed his medical degree at the University of Michigan, and completed his Family Medicine Residency with University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.His Family Medicine and Primary Sports Medicine interests include: evidence-based rehabilitation medicine, ultrasound-guided musculoskeletal treatments, tobacco abuse prevention and cessation, and concussion prevention and treatment services.Jeff Smith, PT, DPT, OCS. Jeff Smith is a physical therapist and co-owner at Northern Michigan Sports Medicine Center. Jeff holds a Bachelor's degree in Zoology from Ohio Wesleyan University, and in May 2000 received his Master's degree in Physical Therapy from St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa before completing his Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2010. Jeff is board certified in orthopedics through the APTA as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy (OCS).? Jeff has been with Northern Michigan Sports Medicine Center since 2000.?He is currently completing a certificate in manual therapy through St. Ambrose University.Jeff Samyn, PT, OCS, CSCS- Jeff Samyn is a physical therapist at Northern Michigan Sports Medicine Center. Jeff earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s in physical therapy from Central Michigan University, graduating in 2004. Jeff is board certified in orthopedics through the APTA as a Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy (OCS). Jeff has been with Northern Michigan Sports Medicine Center since 2005. He is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Karin Leland, DPT-Karin Leland earned her bachelor’s degree from Northern Michigan University, followed by a doctorate in Physical Therapy from Central Michigan University. She had been practicing in an outpatient orthopedic clinic for the past few years downstate before returning to Northern Michigan and joining our staff at the Harbor Springs clinic. Kim Spranger, PT- Since earning her Masters degree in both Exercise Physiology and Physical Therapy, Kim has been practicing PT with Marquette General Hospital in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for 26 years.
