GROUNDS MAINTENANCE LABORER

Under supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, performs a variety of laboring and maintenance work related to the upkeep of grounds.

Individuals in the classification perform laboring duties to assist with cleaning and general maintenance of grounds. Work in this classification is primarily physical in nature.

Typical Examples of Duties:

• Sweeps, rakes, picks up, and disposes of leaves, litter and other debris; cleans drains, basins and other facilities.

• Clears areas around facilities of weeds and brush.

• Mows and performs general maintenance of lawn and other ground covers.

• Prepares soil for planting.

• Uses a variety of hand tools and portable power tools in performace of work; observes proper safety procedures and rules related to the use of tools and equipment.

• Maintains the work site in a safe condition.

LANDSCAPE SUPERINTENDENT

Responsibilities

• Schedule and manage all landscape installations and related subcontractors, including soil prep, planting of large specimen material, and hardscape layout and design (including walks, patios, outdoor fireplaces, fountains etc.)

• Inspect planting of landscape improvements and soil prep for quality and workmanship and verify compliance with plans and specifications

• Participate in preparing invitations to bid for landscape projects

• Act as the liaison between the Landscape Architect, Owner and Subcontractors

• Provide input during the design process for aesthetics, choice of plants, overall layout and budget

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 – 7 years of related experience

• Ability to read and interpret improvement and landscape plans as well as city and state standards

• Ability to multitask, work under pressure and meet deadlines

Responsibilities

• Manage work crew

LANDSCAPE DESIGNER

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of landscape architecture/design

• Knowledge of methods of analysis and computation required to landscape design

• Knowledge of instruments, tools, symbols and nomenclature used in landscape architectural drawing and specifications

• Knowledge of ecological principles and their relationship to environmental planning and design

• Knowledge of surveying methods, remote sensing methods and equipment

• Knowledge of costs and uses of construction materials in landscape design

• Ability to make accurate drawings to scale from sketches, design drawings and verbal instructions

Responsibilities

• Evaluate site conditions and determine water availability and use requirements

• Select the most effective irrigation equipment, methods and materials for the application

• Develop efficient and cost-effective irrigation designs that meet the watering requirements

• Prepare comprehensive plans and specifications that include construction details, equipment or materials, as well as appropriate irrigation schedules

• Ensure the installation matches the design intent

• Provide direction to the end user on system use, scheduling and maintenance

Requirements

• Demonstrate a minimum of three years of irrigation-related experience and education

• Pass series of three written exams on general irrigation and specialty topics

• Remain in good standing by submitting 10 continuing education units and a nominal renewal fee each year

IRRIGATION INSTALL FOREMAN

Responsibilities

• Install new irrigation layouts and/or modify existing systems according to blueprints, sketches or verbal instructions

• Troubleshoot and maintain automatic systems

• Install low voltage wiring controls and fixtures such as hydraulic and electro-hydraulic and micro-electric controllers

• Participate in the training of grounds crew repair of manual and automatic sprinkler systems

• Manage work crew

• Operate power and manual equipment related to irrigation system

• Keep work records and complete jobs from work orders

Requirements

• 3 – 5 years’ experience in irrigation installation

• Ability to read blueprints and interpret irrigation plans

• Knowledge of installation, maintenance, and repair of large scale sprinkler systems utilizing electronic controls and sensing mechanisms

• Basic mathematics and principles of hydraulics

• Attends training courses regarding current practices in the irrigation field

• Assist Irrigation Foreman in the maintenance and installation of irrigation systems

• Perform preventive maintenance on irrigation system

• Perform irrigation system tasks with limited direct supervision
