Gihan MohamadProposal for Conference presentationtitle: “microsoft onenote in the classroom”For ISTE 2015 OverviewMicrosoft OneNote 2010 functions as a digital notebook, a single place to store and access information about school, work, and personal life. It takes just a few minutes to create a new OneNote notebook with tabbed sections and pages. Educators can then add typed and handwritten notes, tables, files, links, pictures, screen clippings, audio, and video. OneNote offers powerful search capabilities to help users find filed information later. Plus, OneNote notebooks are easy to share and synchronize, facilitating collaboration with peers and coworkers. .Using OneNote to gather, organize, find, and share information helps educators stay on top of their tasks and responsibilities. Having a centralized resource for important data lets them use their time more efficiently and effectively, thereby increasing productivity. OneNote also offers graphical templates and backgrounds for arranging ideas logically and making pages visually appealing, so note-taking is simpler and more enjoyable. 02635From one note is a useful tool for educators to create project-based learning activities and move away from the traditional method of lecturing. It allows educators to digitize their lesson plans for all of their classes and share activities, quizzes and homework electronically with their students and their parents. They can turn their classroom almost entirely paperless. OneNote allows educators to add additional materials and resources from the Internet to various lessons like videos, images and screen clipping to help students make sense of what they are learning (Figure 1).79375317500 Figure 1: From will learn to gather, organize and search Microsoft OneNote 2010 using these features:Organize page tabs by creating multi-level subpages Jump to any page with a quick searchDock to DesktopAuto-link notes o Web pages and documentsSend content to any section in OneNoteSync notes to OneNote MobileCollect screen clippings of maps, photos, etc...Email out meeting notesTag and find important itemsCollect articles from the webKeep project document together with their notesAnnotate lesson slides printoutLink meeting notes and tasks with OutlookProtect sensitive information standardsIntegrating OneNote in the classroom will facilitate the switch to student-centered, individualized and differentiated pedagogy that is recommended by ISTE standards for teachers. This presentation will most benefit K-12Tteachers, Tech Coordinators, Principals and Library Media Specialists. These categories represented about half of the attendees of ISTE 2014. It will require the audience to extensively interact with the presenter. BYOD (bring your own device) is required. The format for the various parts of the presentation will be as follows; introduction and modeling by the presenter followed by a hand-on activity by the audience. The proposed time is 90 minutes. background researchAccording to Siu Cheung, et al., (2014), the introduction of digital resources and digital communication tools for learning and teaching brings many opportunities to enhance the learning process in school education in the 21st century. Research findings suggest that technology training is an important factor in developing technology-using educators who are willing to dedicate time and effort to integrate higher technology levels of classroom activities (Vannatta & Fordham, 2004). A study of a group of ninth graders in China found out that digital competency is not based on the ownership of a computer at home or the time spent using the Internet, but rather on the role of education and a well-designed teaching and learning materials in the Chinese school system (Li & Ranieri, 2010). A survey of 2,462 Advanced Placement (AP) and National Writing Project (NWP) teachers finds that digital technologies are shaping student writing in myriad ways and have also become helpful tools for teaching writing to middle and high school students. These AP and NWP teachers see digital technologies benefitting student writing in several ways (Purcell, Buchanan, & Friedrich, 2013):?96% agree (including 52% who strongly agree) that digital technologies “allow students to share their work with a wider and more varied audience”?79% agree (23% strongly agree) that these tools “encourage greater collaboration among students”?78% agree (26% strongly agree) that digital technologies “encourage student creativity and personal expression”. conclusionThis workshop will help educators stay organized, deliver immediate feedback to their students and differentiate instructions depending on their students’ needs. With Microsoft OneNote, educators can create digital notebooks that support academic standards and outcomes across disciplines. Students may use OneNote across content areas and grade levels. OneNote also supports research, collaboration, information management, communication, note taking, journaling, and other academic requirements.
