The MOD?Map app, which represents a collaboration between VisibleBrands and Microsoft Corp developers with input from HP and supermarkets, will be released at the National Retail Federation (NRF) Expo in January.“In much the same way that Google indexes the virtual world to support search based advertising with browsers,” says Timothy Morton, president of VisibleBrands, “MODMap indexes shelf products in the real world so that we can serve digital offers and measure brand engagement with shoppers at a moment of decision location, where for example, someone might be trying to decide between Post Raisin Bran and FiberOne Raisin Bran Clusters.”Unlike other printed, online or mobile phone coupons, VisibleBrands-enabled coupons require no clipping, no downloading, no mobile phone, and no registration or opt-in. People shop as usual and with a single touch of an in-aisle screen can accept a digital offer. The offer is “clipped to cart” using location-based, wireless and cloud technologies and the savings are credited automatically at checkout. A corollary benefit to MODMap is that it is designed to feed existing planograms and support more efficient store merchandising operations. Supermarkets often carry more than 40,000 SKUs and have a difficult time keeping their planograms current and accurate. According to a Food Distributors International Retail Coverage/In-Store Implementation Study, the difference in performance between stores that maintain shelves with a high degree of integrity, and those that don't, yields a 7 percent difference in gross profits. “For supermarkets,” explains Morton, “this is a very significant difference so our first supermarket customer is very excited about MODMap’s potential to help their bottom line.”“MODMap is a highly customized Windows 8 app that gives retailers the ability to increase the selling potential of each square foot of the store,” said Brendan O’Meara, managing director, Worldwide Retail Sector, Microsoft. “We are excited to collaborate with VisibleBrands on MODMap because of the company’s innovative approach to using digital technology to bring personalized and relevant promotions right to the shelf edge."Concludes Morton, “MODMap is a great example of a ‘better together’ solution that benefits everyone from CPGs to supermarkets to shoppers and our partners.”The company will be exhibiting in both HP’s and Zebra Technologies’ booth at the upcoming National Retail Federation (NRF) Expo in New York City, January 13-16, 2013. ?About VisibleBrandsVisibleBrands? is the first and only impression-based media network serving in-store digital offers at the Moment of Decision?.
