2. Specific ways to relate goal(s) to curriculum (team/department, system and state frameworks)

The announcement this week, our Network will start using OneNote in a few months. Many of us have little or no experience using it; therefore, I thought this would be a good opportunity to create a course for my co-workers. This course will help our department to organize our IT projects, better collaboration on large-scale projects and keep us organized on our own small projects. With OneNote you can keep notes, ideas, maps, meetings and other information all in one place. We currently struggle with not having our information all in one place. Often times, communication about a project is missed because all of the different places we have notes. Then my hope would be would use this course to teach the rest of the Network about OneNote.

3. Characteristics of the students for whom this unit is intended (needs in the cognitive, affective, physical, and social areas)

The Gadgets of Microsoft OneNote for Efficient Project Management is designed for learners within the context of business professionals working in an information technology application support team.

4. Student’s Present Level of Performance and Knowledge (Do the students have the adequate knowledge to complete the unit successfully? What prerequisite skills must the students have to complete the unit content? Include technology skills.

Example of Technical Skills for Success:

To be successful in this course, students must possess these minimum technical skills:

• Intermediate to advance general computer knowledge

• Ability to communicate via e-mail

• Use of online collaboration tools such as chat, IM or Skype

• Internet navigation and research

• Intermediate to advanced general knowledge using Word, Excel, and multimedia instructional materials or products.

5. Classroom Layout and grouping of students (Where will the learning take place? How will the room be organized? How will students be grouped (whole group, individuals, pairs, small groups, etc.)

The learners will sign up for the self-pace online course through the current training calendar website. It is important for the learners to be able to apply the skills they are learning to their current job role. Given the nature of the subject, I wanted the learners to have the freedom to learn the material at their own pace but also have a contact for questions and feedback throughout the course.

The learners will be required to use handouts and checklists to help them work through the material because instruction will only be reading and listening vs. active classroom teaching. The advantage of the course being online and accessible during work the learner will be able to use the handouts right after they have learned the new material. As indicated by many in our SAMG-IT courses today, learners have stated they want to apply new knowledge right through hands on experience.

6. Introductory procedures (How will you introduce the unit and the goals?)

• The same layout, icons, and graphics will identify the links and buttons the student must use.

• Announcement page will guide the students’ navigation to start the To Do List for each module tab.

• Announcement page will contain answers to common questions and where to e-mail the instructor.

• Four tabs will be created for the website: Announcement, Home, Module 1, Module 2, Module 3, Module 4

Example of Navigation:

• This is a self-pace course for your own benefit.  There are four modules required for this course.  Each lesson is identified by a module and has its own web page for you to navigate through.  The module tabs are located at the top of this page next to the home tab.  To get started click on Module 1 tab.

There are two requirements for this course:

    1) Send me a lindyhagedorn@u.boisestate.edu confirming you have started the course.

    2) Complete the course evaluation form after each module.  This action will update me each time you have completed a module.

If you have any questions please feel free to lindyhagedorn@u.boisestate.edu me.

Example of the Page layout:

• Lesson Objective: To sharpen organization skills by using OneNote’s Notebook feature by finding information on different internet IT newsletters and websites.

• To Do List:

o Creating a Notebook

o Opening and Closing Notebook

o Saving a Notebook

• Survey:

• Top of Form

1. Was this module easy to follow?

2. Were the video links helpful for your learning?

3. Were the links and documents helpful for completing the tasks?

• Bottom of Form

7. Materials and media (any resource, persons or materials: be as specific as possible. Identify resource, its availability, how it is to be used and why.

Technology Tool Justification:

The students will be using their PC at work and at home. All the required technology for the online course is loaded on the student’s desktop at work; for a list of the Technology Tool on their desktop see Figure 1 below. If the students working on the online course from home, they will be able to use remote access program. The remote access program will allow the students to have the same function and features as their desktop at work provides.

|Technology Tool Justification |

|Tool |Justification |

|Computer |Using a computer for this class is needed because the entire course is based on a computer |

| |application program called NextGen. |

|Microsoft OneNote 2010 |Microsoft OneNote 2010 will be the program used for this entire course. |

|Weebly |I chose Weebly because it an easy program for anyone to build a website. I also created a |

| |video tutorial, I think this would be helpful for any instructor who is going to use my Unit|

| |of instruction. The templates that you have to work with in Weebly look professional |

| |without a lot of work. Weebly also allows for uploading handouts, videos, and surveys which|

| |some of the other website building program do not allow. |

|Word |Word allows for the student to have a place to post their screen shot and then create an |

| |attachment that can be sent to their instructor. Word is needed for the student to be able |

| |to download data to OneNote. |

|Excel |Excel is needed for the student to be able to download data to OneNote. |

|Any E-mail application |E-mail is used as the main source of communication between the instructor and the student. |

| |E-mail is also the only way the student can submit assignments to the instructor. |

|Adobe Reader |Adobe Reader is used for viewing and printing the student’s handout on Weebly website. |

Materials Resources:

I will use the internet, , and OneNote help menu to help guide my material I need to create this online course.

8. Visuals (although this is part of the materials and media, I want this to be a specific part of your plan). Identify at least EIGHT static graphic visuals (NOT links to video clips or websites, please) that you will be creating and use, their purpose, and design.

1. Paper Notebook Image-to identify to the student that paper notes will not be in OneNote

2. Board Room Image- Demonstrated that OneNote could be used as if everyone is in a board meeting together contributing to the meeting as if they were all in one place

3. Image of Voice Recording-record meetings and then post in OneNote

4. Sticky Notes Image-OneNote is a place for all your sticky notes

5. Brain Image- OneNote is a place for all of your brainstorming and research on the internet

6. Spiral Manual Image- Using SharePoint and OneNote together can hold all of your training manuals and notes.

7. Scissors and Glue Image-Using OneNote make it easy to cut and paste anything item you need for reference later

8. Baggage Tag Image- Tagging information in OneNote make it easy for you to search for information instead of trying to figure it where you saved your sticky notes, notebooks, papers, and brainstorming all over your desk or computer.

9. Assessment and evaluation of learner understanding (Identify the methods the teacher will use to identify student learning levels and needs. Describe when these will be used during the unit)

• The online quizzes, handout and checklist will guide the learners’ activities.

• All students will be required to review their feedback from the instructor. This will help the student to understand the OneNote to it fully capabilities.

• Survey will be provided after each module tab in order to evaluate the students learning and the course.

10. Relate assessment instruments to the outcomes stated in the goals.

One-to-One Evaluation

For the instructional materials, I would bring together two individuals that have used OneNote in before and two instructors from my department; I would have separate one-on-one sessions with each one of them. My goal with having two sets of different learners is to make sure that it has a level of expertise while ensuring that I have not missed basic levels needed in the material. We would use the training room for working through the material, that way we can markup any changes that are needed on the material right then. I will ask the learners to work through each of the handout checklist to ensure all the steps have been documented accordingly for the students.

Key questions during the one-on-one sessions would include:

1. Does the learner understand the instructions?

2. Does the terminology make sense? Can you suggest any improvements?

3. Do learners understand what is needed for navigation through the course?

4. Does the learners know what is expected of them to complete in each Module?

5. Do any of the steps seem out of sync? Would you recommend any changes?

6. Is the syllabus clear for the student to start the course?

7. (Open ended) Are there any other obvious errors in the course?
