Introduction to Online LearningBefore I discuss how learning is changing with this online platform, I want to be sure that you know if you are missing any work in our current unit (10th Macbeth/9th Persepolis) before the school closure, you can submit this work to me through email (and this is something that you need to prioritize!) If you need any documents to help with this, please let me know. Also, if you need to take a reading quiz (my 9th graders), please let me know and we can make arrangements to make this up. Again, please prioritize this work—I will accept digital submissions—especially if you have a D or F in my class.Learning is going to look differentWe are going to spread out the workAbout 20-25 minutes a day (outside of today since I am introducing a new way of learning)Four platforms you can access to do work:Website: this is my typical place of posting announcements, assignments, and resources. I will continue to do this. However, I would like for us to prioritize Microsoft Teams (which I’ll talk about in a moment) as it will give us more opportunities to connect through video, chat, links, and more. My website is only one-way mode of communicating—I post and you retrieve.Microsoft Teams: You have been granted access to Microsoft Teams. This is done through the Microsoft Office 365 that you have through the school. Please be sure to join your Team/Class. From here, you will have access to communicating with your classmates, assignments, resources, etc. This is already available through the district and doesn’t require you to purchase anything. Your student only needs to go to and sign in using their ISD credentials. DO NOT try to sign in using your Google accounts! Please use the same info you use when signing in to an ISD computer. If your home computer(s) do not have the Microsoft Office, you can get free access through the district. Please see the attached document on how to download: (see my website for the document with instructions on how to access). If you need access to technology such as laptops, please let me know and I can connect you with securing a laptop and/or Wifi Hotspot during this time.Flipgrid: 10th grade should be set up already; 9th grade—I’ve posted class codes so that you can sign-up. This platform will allow us to post weekly videos answering questions, participate with your peers on these questions, and connect. You can access Flipgrid through your phone (app) or computer desktop. I have posted links through Teams to threads you can begin to comment on—please start with the “Check-in: How are you” thread. I’ve given you two questions and up to 1 minute to respond. If you encounter any problems with connecting to Flipgrid, please let me know. You can always respond via email or Teams chat.: everyone should be familiar with this platform as we have been using this already in class.Assignments:Everyday is a different task, but every week will be the same task/topic on each dayFor example:Monday: reading (10th grade—Macbeth; 9th grade—The House on Mango Street)Tuesday: topic or skill we’ve already covered – this should be review, but also an opportunity to practice and strengthenPlease know, if there is an influx, or high volume, of questions that need to be addressed, I may also periodically stream during this day as well. If I do have a session, I will announce it on my website and Teams the day before.Wednesday: writing (10th—Teams; 9th )Thursday: Live forum to ask questions you’ve had throughout the week, problems you’re seeing, concerns about school, grades, etc. It’s a time to talk about what you’re learning, but more importantly, to connect during this time of temporary adjustment.Friday: Grammar and Vocabulary practiceGrading/Skyward:This work is optional, but please don’t let that prevent you from doing work. You will strengthen what you know and practice what you struggle to grasp. The transition back to school will be easier—keeping our minds engaged during this time is critical.I want you to challenge yourself, be curious, and ask questions! I will be inputting weekly assignments to SkywardIt will go in as “No Count/Completion”This will NOT impact your grade, so, there will be no penalty to your grade if you do not complete the work. I only want to keep track of who is engaging with the material as knowing this will help ME with the transition when we return to school. Contact:I will be available by email Monday – Friday from 8am to 3pmYou can schedule an individual video meeting which can be done through Microsoft TeamsLive stream on Thursdays from 11-11:30am (10th); 11:30am – noon (9th)I will be reviewing content you have covered for the week, including any questions I may have received through email. This will also be an opportunity for you to ask questions you may have through the chat function (more information on live streaming to come soon).Getting Started10th grade: On the “Posts” page, read through my postsBe sure you’re signed up for FlipgridComplete first assignment—Macbeth Monday9th grade: On the “Posts” page, read through my postsBe sure you’re signed up for FlipgridComplete first assignment—Mango Monday ................
