Small world!  James and Mary had a son named William...William married my father's 2nd cousin, Flossie EGAN from Long Lake up in Florence Co.  My Dad was from "up north" but he moved to Shawano County after he married my mother... and they lived in Hartland Twp., not far from Flossie... but he never knew she was there until I found her years after she died.  Dad was a little younger than Flossie but told us stories of both families living not too far away in Long Lake & Tipler.  Flossie & Wm are both buried at Hillside Cemetery in Angelica Twp.

Family History Story

Magdalena "Lena" and Bernhard Kiepke owned a tavern in the city of Marathon which was located on Main Street and it was called "Bernie's Tavern".

After Bernhard's death, Lena continued running the tavern for a couple of years.

Her daughter, Doreen Ann Kiepke had wedding reception to Gerald Hanson at her mother and dad's tavern on July 31, 1959. She recalls fondly that Walter Hilmershausen and his band played nearly all night long and food and drink were everywhere!

Bernhard Kiepke was a brewery worker for Marathon Brewery for 10-plus yeas. After the brewery, he owned his own tavern in Marathon until his death.
