Setting up a Minecraft Workshop

Computers Required:

Minecraft must be installed on at least 1 computer per 2 students plus an additional computer for workshop leaders. (A class of 12 kids needs 7 computers.)

3-button mice are useful but not required. Enable direct left and right click on Mac computers.

Verify that Minecraft ports are not disabled by a firewall.



Computer Requirements:

CPU: Dual core processor 2.6Ghz

RAM: 2GB

Java 6 Release 45

Bandwidth Requirements

2Mbps Upload and Download per user is generally sufficient for Youtube, Webex and Minecraft.



Installing Minecraft:

Download the version that matches the computer operating system

Use BIY account

A Minecraft account will cost roughly $30.

Testing:

Set to version 1.7.10:

After logging in, on the bottom left, there is a button labeled "edit profile". Click this and find the drop down labeled "Use version" and select 1.7.10

Click "Play" and select "Multiplayer".

Click "Direct Connect"

Connect to IP 54.164.139.123:25575

Minecraft Server Admin:

Workshops leaders need a windows computer or the ability to bring in their own windows laptop with internet connection. (If this is not possible, please contact Build-It-Yourself so we can set up a person to administer the Minecraft server remotely.)

Power point must be installed on all computers.
