Each district school board is invited to send up to eight (8) participants. It is suggested the team of eight include one board representative, up to six classroom teachers (including Primary, Junior, and Intermediate Division teachers), and one administrator. One member of the team should have experience in working with identified exceptional students.

Each school authority is invited to send one (1) representative to the training session.

Note: We would like at least two people from each board to bring laptop computers to the training session.

In preparation for the face to face training session, each board team is encouraged to take part in an electronic pre-session. Information about these Adobe Connect sessions is in the attached registration form. Sign up for these sessions is included as part of the registration process.

Expense Claim Information

The ministry will reimburse participants for the cost of:

• Travel (at the rate of $.40 per kilometre)

• Hotel accommodation if necessary (for participants traveling 200 kilometres or more return trip)

• For those requiring accommodation, one supper meal for the night of accommodation ($20.00/meal). Breakfast and lunch will be provided during the training for all participants.

• Supply teacher coverage, where required to cover classroom teachers, is at the board’s per diem rate.

Participants requiring over night accommodation are to book and pay for their own accommodations/meals and then submit all bills to their own board for reimbursement. Each board must then submit a signed, original board invoice and itemized Expense Claim (template attached) along with copies of all receipts. DATE: March 20, 2008

SUBJECT: Adobe Connect Pre-training Sessions for the Revised Science and

Technology, Grades 1-8 Curriculum Policy Documents

This memorandum is to provide you with information about Adobe Connect pre-training sessions for the above-named revised curriculum policy document to be implemented beginning September 1, 2008.

Adobe Acrobat Connect is software that provides online web conferences and multi-person online meeting rooms. We are using this software to conduct on-line training sessions in our own virtual conference space. By using this technology to hold pre-training sessions, we will be able to make more effective use of our face-to face time to more deeply explore some of the major revisions to the science and technology curriculum policy document.

The pre-training session will address:

▪ an overview of the curriculum review process;

▪ an overview of the changes in the revised curriculum;

▪ an overview of key messages in assessment and evaluation

Each district school board is being given one connection to take part in one of the pre-training sessions. Designated contact people are asked, whenever possible, to make arrangements for their implementation team to participate in the selected pre-training session together. Where this is not possible, as many members of the team as possible should take part. A recording of the session will be made available for those team members who are unable to take part in the virtual session. Information for accessing this recording will be made available prior to the first on-line session.

Times for the virtual pre-training sessions are:

Friday, March 28, 9:00-10:30 a.m. Monday, March 31, 9:00-10:30 a.m.

Friday, March 28, 11:30-1:00 p.m. Monday, March 31, 11:30-1:00 p.m.

Friday, March 28, 4:00-5:30 p.m.

Please be sure to indicate your choice of date and time, on your registration form for the implementation training. Please note that supply teacher costs are not covered by the Ministry of Education for this training.

The designated team contact person is urged, once registration for the training session has been submitted, to contact Curriculum Services Canada (CSC) to participate in a mandatory technical run-through prior to the team’s virtual session. This is to ensure that your computer is compatible with the web conferencing environment and to explain the features that will be used during the actual session.

CSC office hours are Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. EST. Please contact Stephen Kunc by phone (1-800-837-3048, ext. 225 or 416-591-1576, ext. 225) or email (skunk@) to book a session.

Your continued co-operation and support is appreciated as we move together in implementing the revised Ontario Curriculum.
