MANUSCRIPT COLLECTIONS Mark Schreiber Collection
Abstract: Photographs and related records documenting Missouri prisons and the Missouri Department of Corrections, particularly the Missouri State Penitentiary. These items were collected by Corrections employee Mark Schreiber primarily for the purpose of writing his books. The collection spans 36 institutions and numbers over 5,800 unique images.

HISTORICAL AND BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES
Mark S. Schreiber (1946-) is a longtime former employee of the Missouri Department of Corrections. Before joining the Department, Schreiber worked as Chief Investigator for the Cole County Prosecutor's Office from c1975-c1977. In 1977 or 1978, he became an officer with the Department of Corrections. Shortly thereafter, he was hired as Chief Internal Affairs Officer. He held various other positions, including art instructor and Assistant Warden. He has also written books about the Missouri State Penitentiary and Missouri Department of Corrections (see Bibliography).
