HIAWATHALAND CHAPTER

Minutes of Chapter 3 Meeting on September 20, 2007

Meeting place: St. Charles Golf Course, St. Charles, MN

Meeting called to order at 7:40 P.M. with 12 members present.

Motion by Vince Fangman to accept minutes, seconded by Doug Rude.

Treasurer’s Report:

Beginning balance (07/19/2007) $1970.58

Deposits $20.58

Withdrawals $0.00

Ending balance (09/20/2007) $1991.16

Motion by Roger Brand to accept Treasurer’s Report, seconded by Tony Blumentritt.

OLD BUSINESS:

• Additional complaints have been filed against “The Locating Company”

• Members suggested a need for additional efforts to communicate the requirement to utilize a Licensed Land Surveyor. (i.e.) A City Ordinance requiring a Certificate of Survey in certain cases.

NEW BUSINESS:

• Questions were raised about Boundary Commission plats:

1. When does a new “lot” become effective?

2. When and how are mortgage lenders involved?

• Past President Ed Otto again inquired about each chapter putting together a display of historical survey equipment and other items. Display would likely be in a public building. Roger Brand volunteered to contact Olmsted County Historical Society to follow up.

• Chapter President Cory Felderman is seeking input and nominations for several 2007 MSPS awards. The E.A. “Bud” Rathburn award, the William S. Kelly award and Surveyor of the year.

• Members voted to donate $100 to the National Museum of Surveying.

CORRECTION:

• From 9/20/07 minutes: The reference to the surveying museum was incorrectly stated.

It should have read: The National Museum of Surveying will be opening a museum in Springfield, IL. The IPLSA (Illinois Professional Land Surveyors Association) will have offices in that building.

There was a motion by Gene Marburger, seconded by Vince Fangman, to adjourn the meeting at 9:10.

The next meeting will be Thursday, November 15th at the Riverview Greens in Stewartville. Social hour will begin at 6:00 with dinner and meeting to follow at 7:00.

Respectfully submitted,

Mark J. Haselius
