CURRENT RESPONSIBILITIES

1993-present: Associate Director, Safety and Quality (Associate promotion 4/2011)

Coordinate and monitor pharmacy quality improvement programs. Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) methods are utilized to improve systems and increase the quality of patient care. Review and analyze reported adverse drug reactions and medication errors. Coordinate action plans for system improvements.

Oversee staff development and new employee training programs.

1995-present: TJC liaison for Medication Management Standards

Audit, evaluate and facilitate compliance with The Joint Commission Medication Use standards. Includes performing mock surveys, providing educational materials to the staff, reviewing and updating policies and procedures and reporting to the Quality and Accreditation department on compliance issues and coordinating or implementing system changes to improve standard compliance.

2000-present: Medication Safety Officer

Responsible for developing and utilizing specific indicators to monitor the safety of the medication system. Review and analyze reported adverse drug reactions and medication errors and coordinate action plans for system improvements. Review medication error literature to identify issues relevant to the medical center. Facilitate medication safety for integrated Computerized Prescriber Order Entry (CPOE) system and other technology such as automated medication cabinets (AMC). Provide input for medication safety educational initiatives. Implement proven safety strategies as appropriate to the institution. Manage safe processes for high-alert medications and facilitate the development of medication use guidelines.

COMMITTEES

1996-present: Medication System Review Committee (MSRC – P&T subcommittee)

Chairperson; Charge: Proactively evaluate and implement changes to safeguard the integrity of the medication system and reduce the risk of adverse patient outcomes. Review audits of key components of the medication system and utilize CQI principles to identify and correct potential problems. Report committee activities to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and the Safety Committee.

2000-present: Safety Committee, Member

Medical Center quality committee charged with providing oversight and guidance to other Medical Center committees, programs, or leaders related to safety considerations, including incorporating safety features into the redesign of new processes. Ensure compliance with the Joint Commission standards related to patient and staff safety.

2013-present: Quality & Safety Strategy & Leadership Steering Committee

Provide leadership, direction, and oversight of our enterprise-wide quality and patient safety priorities, performance, and action plan.

2014-present: Drug Diversion Prevention Team

Multidisciplinary group charged with preventing the diversion of controlled substances from the workplace. Evaluate and implement appropriate systems to deter controlled substance diversion and to promptly identify diversion and intervene when it is occurring.

Provide leadership and direction to the department.
