For this unit, I was assigned to understand the concept of photography as well as learning new photographic techniques that would improve my photography skills as well as my images. My first task was to understand how photographers work and how they receive their income. From doing the magazine task, it gave me a more understanding of how photography works and understanding of how to become a professional photographer which that takes a lot of training and practise, so since being assigned to this unit, my original plan was to go for a dark theme and I was inspired by the works of Winnie Harlow’s. The images that was used for the magazine was interpreted in a very creative way of showing the shapes and patters very precise if you look at them, in some extend the work was visually contemplated into a very artistic figure of pictures for the cover magazine of ‘wonderland.’ The ideas were very connected with the photoshoot that was held at the studio. There were two individuals that participated in this part of the magazine, a women and a teenager, the teenager’s character was to be the subject of a daughter or a female in some words, and the women was meant to be the subject of a mother or a female. It was referenced to raise awareness of LGBT initialism and the mutual connection of a mother and her daughter. The work symbolises a very indirect message to the audiences to capture too many clues rather than just finding one meaning behind a picture. The core of the story was to level my one idea into three; firstly, it was the idea of a mother and her daughter holding hands which that represent the close relationship a mother and a daughter has, secondly the V shape was to aim for the Bavarian illuminati to seize political background, and thirdly it was the element of LGBT initialism of two females holding hands. One having a normal skin and one having a skin condition under the name of ‘Vitiligo’.The work was an adaptation of Winnie Harlow’s skin condition, which it was duplicated with the same vision as hers of showing her modelling. This images are a reminder of the Vitiligo skin condition referenced to the those who are under the same condition. Now it has become a trend of taking pictures and it has become a sensational success of using models with this condition in photoshoots and for promotional purposes for e.g. magazine, fashion campaigns and etc. It is described that this is a prominent form of skin condition that has been used as a “beautiness” to transform into art. Primarily it is what’s being used more than being seen, so it’s become a process of art and a process of showing it rather than hiding it into society. The historical context behind Vitiligo started in the early 1550 B.C. scientist believe that it was possibly discovered in Egypt. The earliest signs that Vitiligo existed is in the Ebers Papyrus of Egypt from 1550 B.C. It may result in psychological stress and those affected may be stigmatized. To my initial idea the final images were very close, I can say it’s more than close. Because it’s been duplicated as the same images and even better, it didn’t lack any spectacle of details which was shown the same as Winnie’s images. I can say the work perfectly fitted my initial idea, and the collaboration with the model was very emotional to sense her gestures in the images that was taken. Furthermore, the images show great amount of meaning of not just the condition of the skin but more into the eyes of the subject which revealed a very sensing emotion to my eyes and more to the viewers that are about to see the work. Mainly the idea of this work was to attempt to shoot two cover magazine, one was to reference my idea to the LGBT initialism, and another one was to show the skin condition that is being used to take picture of. It was very appropriate to use and capture this initial idea which it had so much to understand within the depths of the work. To the chosen target audience, I can say it could be very appealing and very meaningful to what ground it withholds. A ground of gender, race, sex, and ethnicity which it was a compound of too many targets. This can target the ages between 10-50, but however the ages that were mainly targeted where between 18-30, reason being is that these ages are what everyone focuses more on. They are more focused to be used in visual arts, and more in films to create an artistic background to the film or project. I would highly think that an editor would use the images. For instance, these images aren’t just mediocrely taken, these were something that people would speak of in public and in the media; it’s been taken with a large amount of effort to adapt. On a comparison scale, I would say it’s very adequate work compared to a professional photographer. This work has been processed just as a normal professional photographer would go through; nothing less and nothing more. What differentiates these images compared to a professional work is that the quality stands the same but in terms of the resources it’s been less used. The strengths of this work was highly maintained as the same images of Winnie Harlow’s, and the texture of the work did differ from the original ones of Winnie’s. I can define the work even better than the original; but in some range if I had the opportunity to extend my creativity in taking these pictures I would provide myself more resources and more models to strengthen my work by showing more meaning to the work. Moreover, the feedbacks that I received from my classmates and tutor were the cropping of my pictures and the retouching I did by colour grading the images in Photoshop. It was very unique from other photos that were taken, and very powerful meaning behind them. The black & white effect was very edgy and very strong in a sense. The representation that was given to the pictures were the mixtures of the colouring, and it’s very repeatable. It makes it look that it’s trying to portray a message to the viewers if this image. The weaknesses that this work did lack was the equipment’s were less to shoot with and had to shoot with the things that were provided at hand. Otherwise there wasn’t anything that couldn’t be done. If I had the opportunity to do something differently next time, I would take the chance to work with artists with high reputation in their work and well-resourced. More importantly I would do something very differently in terms of the ideas and the narrative of the shoots. In conclusion, this unit was fun and something exciting, it is one for my favourite units - creating your own themed photoshoot and then creating the images into a magazine cover. If I had more time, then I would have improved a lot and would have tried out different things to improve my magazine cover. I have learned different photographic techniques which could improve my images next time I'm assigned to do this. This has been an exciting experience for me and I'm happy with what I came out with. ................
