Name: Date: Block:Moon and the Tides Directions2886075153670My assigned month _________ and year _________00My assigned month _________ and year _________PART 1: Tide ChartYou will be creating a tide chart for three locations: Pensacola, Florida, Anchorage, Alaska, and Portland, Maine. Each student will be assigned a different month and year to create your graphs. You will then need to research and compile moon phase data for the one-month period that tidal data was compiled. Lastly, overlay moon phase data with tide data in order to attempt to recognize a pattern/relationship between phases, tides, and tidal basins. (You will be given a separate direction sheet for creating the graphs.)Once you have the graphs completed in Excel, you will need to copy and paste them into a Microsoft Word document. You will need to print out a copy of your graphs before moving on to parts 2 and 3. PART 2: Moon Phases On your graph you will need to handwrite in the dates on the x-axis (below the times). Starting with the 1st, you will need to label every other day. Next, you will add in the quarterly moon phases. Go to the following website to find historical data of the moon phases: the left you will need to pick the correct year from the drop down menu.Click on the month that corresponds with your graphs. Click submit.Find the date for each of the 4 main phases of the moon (new, first quarter, full, last quarter). Since all of your locations are in the northern hemisphere, you will use the same dates for each of locations.Using a colored pencil, draw in the phases of the moon onto the graph for each location. PART 3: ConclusionIs there a relationship between the phase of the moon and the level of the tides? Explain your answer using the data. Is there a relationship between the shape of the tidal basin and the level of the tides? You will need to research the locations to determine the shape of the basin. Explain your answer using the data. **REMINDER: Make sure you not only answer the question, but explain why you came to the conclusion that you did. You need to make sure you use SPECIFIC examples from the data and the charts you created. ................
