NEW YORK, NY (November 19, 2010) – News Talk Radio 710, WOR announced today that they have teamed with NBC 4 New York’s “New York Nonstop,” the station’s 24/7 digital channel, to host the first “Nonstop Giving Day” combined radiothon/telethon event on Thursday, December 2nd from 5:30am-6pm.  News Talk Radio 710 WOR and media partner NBC 4 New York will be structuring programming around the concept of giving and charity throughout the day.  The Salvation Army Greater New York Division and Food Bank for New York City will serve as the charitable partners, and receive the proceeds from the event.  Those interested in making a donation can call 1-800-234-1710.

“This is the first time in 87 years that WOR has partnered with a TV station in such a charity undertaking,” said Jerry Crowley, Vice President and General Manager at News Talk Radio 710, WOR.  “We can think of no better partner to do it with than the folks at WNBC and New York Nonstop.  The power of the two combined entities should make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate in New York at this critical time.”

“We are thrilled to host our very first ‘Nonstop Giving Day,’ which we hope will become an annual institution,” said Michael Jack, President and General Manager of NBC 4 New York.   “Our media partner, WOR-AM, held a very successful radiothon with the Salvation Army last year, so we are pleased to be able to bring the TV broadcast element to the mix.  We fully expect a successful inaugural campaign.”

Famed radio personality and WOR morning host John Gambling will kick of the broadcast at 5:30am live from the MSNBC Digital Café, which will be the event’s “home base” throughout the day.  Other WOR hosts, including Joan Hamburg, Dr. Joy Browne, Steve Malzberg, and Joe Bartlett, will join Gambling throughout the day.  Joe Bartlett will also broadcast live cut-ins between 12 and 5 pm from the Rockefeller Center Skating Rink featuring local luminaries as well as guests who have been helped by one or both charities over the years.  Meanwhile, New York Nonstop will feature thematic programming all day that addresses charities.  Some of the programming will also appear on NBC 4 New York.
