Counting Significant Figures: RULES For Counting Sig. Figs:
Nonzero integers- (1-9) Always count as significant figures.
Zeros-There are three classes of Zeros.
4 Leading Zeros are zeros that precede all of the nonzero digits. They never count as Sig Figs.
5 Captive Zeros- are zeros that fall between nonzero digits. They always count as Sig Figs.
6 Trailing Zeros- are zeros at the right end of the number. They are significant only if the number is written with a decimal point.
