When the glycogen is broken down into energy for the muscles a waste product called lactic acid is produced. A buildup of lactic acid decreases the muscle’s ability to contract and muscle fatigue sets in.Purpose:The purpose of this lab is to explore the muscle fatigue that sets in when you use your muscles. Today we will be doing an observation activity.Materials:YourselfTwo textbooks (Holt, both blue or both green)TimersActivity One: WeightliftingProcedures:Have one person hold a book in each hand.Raise one arm straight out parallel to the ground and the other arm down at your side.As soon as you assume the position, have your partner start the timer.Hold the position for as long as you can until your muscles start to really hurt.
