Supplies

• Students will be given online access to the textbook and a hardcopy will be available for use in the classroom.

• 3 ring binder, a little notebook paper, pencils, pens.

• Kleenexes and/or hand sanitizer for the classroom would be greatly appreciated.

Classroom Procedures

• Academic Integrity: Cheating is a serious matter. Students involved in cheating (whether giving or receiving answers) will receive a grade of zero for the assignment. Cheating includes: helping, checking answers, sharing, plagiarism, etc. Students may only work together when it is expressly stated by the teacher. Students may never work together (in or out of class), on reading guides or homework assignments unless it is a group project. Note: Mrs. Grable has enforced this policy numerous times!

• Electronics: Phones and smart watches must be placed in the assigned slot when entering class and retrieved when exiting. Students seen in possession of a cell phone or smart watch, or wearing earphones, air pods, headphones, etc. or using other electronic devices such as handheld games during class, must serve a 20 minute detention after school within 1 week of the offense. Any subsequent violations will be referred to the administration. No Warnings.

• No Hats or Hoodies may be worn in class.

• Late Assignments: Students may turn in an assignment 1 day late for a 10% penalty. Afterward, students have until the test over that unit, to stay after school to make up late work in the presence of the teacher. Another 10% will be deducted each week.

• Tardies: Students are tardy if not in the room when the bell rings.

1st period – If tardy, report to PPO immediately.

• Hall passes: Students may use one of four hall passes to leave the room (even if it is in the first few minutes of class). Students may choose to leave the room without a pass, if willing to serve a 15 minute detention after school. Students may not share passes.

• Food and Drink: Students may consume breakfast, lunch, or snacks in the classroom.

Makeup Work:

Check with the teacher and the blog to find out about missed assignments.

Papers distributed during an absence will be placed in the class tray on the bookshelf near the door.

In order to receive credit for makeup assignments, absences must be excused in Synergy within 3 days.

Students may makeup tests and quizzes most days at 7:45, 5th or 6th period, or 3:30. Minimum day students may NOT makeup assignments during Mrs. Grable’s 7th period class.

Makeup Tests and Quizzes: Make-up tests are NOT multiple choice and make-up quizzes are NOT fill-in-the-blank with a word bank. These assessments are usually short answer. They are not intended to be more difficult but students who are not well-prepared, usually find them to be so. Students with a planned excused absence, may arrange to take a quiz or test early.

Tips to be successful in Mrs. Grable’s Class

• Take thorough notes on the outline given.

• Always read over the notes the night they are taken. If they don’t make sense, compare them with another student’s or ask questions about it when we review them for the next day of notes.

• Teach or explain your notes to another person.

• Study a little at a time instead of waiting until the night before a test. It is best to study 20 minutes several times a week. Studies have proven that “cramming” does not result in long term learning.

• Study the material that you don’t know. Don’t spend time on what you already know well.

• When studying for any subject, find a quiet place, silence your phone, and turn off the music with lyrics.

• Flashcards or Quizlet would be helpful for studying the many Government terms.

• Keep an organized notebook.

Used properly, the above tips should be more than enough for most students to earn excellent grades. However, if you need further help, try these:

• Study Government 15 minutes every day.

• Rewrite your notes while rewording them or reorganize them graphically.

• Ask another student if you can make a copy of his/her notes to supplement yours.

Occasionally, Optional Assignments are offered but NEVER extra credit.
