‘Nothing is impossible with God’ Luke 1:37REMOTE LEARNINGCLASS: EYFS (Nursery and Reception)DATE: WB: 25.1.2021This half term our topic is Winter. We will have many focusing books which our activities will be based around. The book this week is continuing with The Gruffalo’s Child. If you have the book at home, then please read it together at home. Alternatively watch the videos posted onto Tapestry last week of the teachers telling the story. This week we’ll be delivering more resources for your packs on Monday and Tuesday. It was lovely to see you all on our visits and we are very much looking forward to seeing you again and to see how you got on with last week’s tasks. When we visit we will ask to see the work from last week so please have it ready to show us (if you have already uploaded photos and videos to Tapestry this will be fine instead). It is important that we see the evidence that your child is accessing home learning.Phonics/ReadingWatch/ read The Gruffalo’s Child story- The Gruffalo's Child - Read by Alan Mandel - YouTube PhonicsNursery and Reception- Further information regarding your child’s phonics lessons will be available on Tapestry daily.Whilst in school the children work in set phonics groups to match their ability. We now have a system in place where your child will have a lesson which will be aimed specifically at their group. Mark Making/WritingNurseryUse your name card and practice as often as you can to trace over (or copy) your name. Even if your child cannot trace over the letters precisely they will still be learning about pencil control and mark-making. Please write on the next page of their workbook this week.Ask your child to colour in the picture of the Gruffalo and his Child. Then they should try and cut out the picture by themselves and glue it to the next page of their workbook. It doesn’t matter if the cutting out is not neat. Then they should use the paper straws: in the story the Gruffalo’s Child carries a stick man. Ask your child to use scissors to cut out the paper straw into smaller pieces. Then they have to try and glue the pieces on the next page of their workbook to make it look like the stick man. So there should be a body, 2 arms and 2 legs. Mr Prior will make a video to demonstrate how to do this.Use the worksheet with a picture frame. Ask your child to draw their own terrible creature. They may like to copy the playdough model they made, or they can make their own one up. Talk to your child about what they are drawing: Where are their eyes? Do they have a tail? What colour is it? There are lines underneath, ask your child to make their own marks to describe it. Can they tell you what they have written? Glue the sheet on the next page of their workbook. We will ask to see the book on our next visit.==============================================================ReceptionIn your pack this week there are sheets with the characters from the story. They are speaking (thought bubbles). What do you think they are saying? Can your child say out loud some of the things they may say? Keep the sentence simple. They can then write the sentence. Start with the words: “It is…” or “I can see…” For example, “It is sunny” or “I can see the sun”. When they have written something please glue the sheet on the next page of their large workbook. We will look at them on our next visit. Please encourage your child to sound out and spell each word themselves, please do not worry or correct them if it’s spelt incorrectly. At this stage in Reception we look at ensuring certain words that cannot be sounded out are spelt correctly, eg: the, to, no. Please refer to the video uploaded previously on Tapestry where Mrs Hough models how to write sentences. MathsNurseryAll of our Maths lessons will be done on video or memo this week. Please watch for the videos or memos to be uploaded daily. You may need your resources such as the Numicon Plates or your workbooks. This week you will be using chalk. Please supervise your child when you receive the pack with this in.ReceptionPlease check Tapestry daily where Mrs Hough will upload each day’s Maths lesson.RENurseryStart with the sign of the cross. In Nursery we say this in a special way with actions. There is a video on Tapestry and on the website.Read this passage from The Bible to your child or play the video on Tapestry by Mr Prior. You may have your own children’s Bible to read from. One day, while Jesus was teaching his friends, some mums and dads came with their children to see him. They were looking forward to meeting Jesus because they wanted him to bless their children. The friends of Jesus were very annoyed because they did not want anyone to disturb him while he was teaching. “Please go away. Do not disturb Jesus”, they said. When Jesus saw what was happening, he called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them. I love children very much and I want to have them near me.” Jesus explained to the grown-ups that children are very special. The grownups should learn to love and trust like children.Watch the video on Tapestry where Mr Prior asks questions about the story. Help your child answer them. Then look at the pictures in your pack showing Jesus with the children. Ask your child these questions:What is happening?Who does Jesus love? What do you think the children are saying to Jesus? What do you think Jesus is saying to the children? Finally let your children hear and sing along to this song: (Jesus is my best friend).========================================================================= ReceptionLearning objective: Know that Jesus has great love for each one of us. Think of ways to show our love for Jesus.Read this passage from The Bible to your child. You may have your own children’s Bible to read from. One day, while Jesus was teaching his friends, some mums and dads came with their children to see him. They were looking forward to meeting Jesus because they wanted him to bless their children. I love children very much and I want to have them near me.” Jesus explained to the grown-ups that children are very special. The grownups should learn to love and trust like children.Ask your child these questions: ? Who did the children want to see? ? Why did they want to see Jesus? (Because Jesus loved them). ? How do you think the children felt when they were told to go away? ? What did Jesus do when he heard his friends saying, “Please go away. Do not disturb Jesus”? ? What did Jesus say to all the grown up people? ? How do you think we can show Jesus that we love him? Finally open the Powerpoint attached and talk through with your child the prompt questions. (This will be attached in a separate memo).Expressive Arts and Design – Understanding the WorldIncluded in your pack is a design to make a Gruffalo’s Child movable puppet.
