Lizardman and Anthro Leviathan TFThere are spells, hidden and forgotten by the mists of time, which can change a person in their entirety. Such spells are forgotten because of the horrors and terrors it caused. One myth speaks of the Mad God of Change, Elross, freely gave such magic to the early kings. One made the ruler and the land linked, so if one is healthy and prosperous, so is the other, and vice versa. Another is to give a person the ability to become an elemental being, to be able to manipulate one’s new native element as easily as breathing. One of the worse is a complete transmogrification of a being, from one thing into another, changing the being’s body, mind, and spirit in its entirety. – An excerpt of an Academy of the Sword and Staff lectureMy name is Urok Spellsword, son of the ancient and known Spellsword family, whose school of the battle arts is known throughout the lands of the Randosian Empire. Despite the prestigious name, however, I’m only a simple commoner. The advancement of knowledge and the preference of the gun during the recent centuries have made the Sword and Spell School enter a slow decline. My cousins in the main branch are bringing it back from the brink though. The last thing I heard before I left for this journey was a branching out into other areas of knowledge, incorporating both modern progress and ancient tradition. But I’m on a journey, maybe for fame, maybe for gold, most likely for experience and the sense of adventure. Perhaps I’ll find new styles to introduce into the newly blessed Academy of the Sword and Staff.I am not alone. A companion that joined me, the so called Zunis the Great, is accompanying me through the distant eastern colonies of the Randosian Empire, the strange land of Nakara. The cultures and traditions of the land and its people are strange and interesting. We rested in a small mining town of Nartekumentolo, which apparently means ‘Valley of mineral plenty’ in the land’s ancient first and sacred tongue of Sadyakya. We did some minor jobs to help the inhabitants. Patrol the streets at night, guard the town’s appointed Randosian mayor, and, most importantly, protect the townsfolk from the strange monsters that filled the land. When the work became rather repetitive, Zunis came to me with excited glee.“I found out about this in the town archives.” He said as he shows me the maps and documents. “There’s an abandoned mine in that nearby dormant volcano.”“You mean Tomeltentato?” ‘The bosom of the goddess Tato’“Yeah, whatever. You see, the town used it to get its minerals and gems there until the appearance of those reptile monsters years ago. Now no one wants to go there due to some superstitious drivel about ‘Tomato’s curse’.”“Tato’s curse, you mean.” I corrected him.“Look,” He said as he shows me an old map of the area. “We’ll take this road out of town and to the mine,” He then shows me an equally old map of the mine’s interior. “Even if the mine has run dry, we can do a service to the town by getting rid of more monsters. Maybe sell some fur or scales for the alchemists and such.” I look at him for a moment before taking a deep breath.“Very well. It was getting boring reading a battle between the gods and the demons in an ancient forgotten tongue.” I said in sarcasm.“Great! I’ll wait for you at the gate.” He then quickly runs out of the room. I sighed, at least today’s going to be more interesting than usual. I check for my things, a sword, a shield, my magic tome, and staff, with some potions, herbs, food and spices in my backpack. I then left the inn and head towards the town gate. There I see Zunis reading the map while holding his magic staff.“Found anything special?”“No, it’s just a regular map.” He then grabs my hand and drags me out of town. “Come on!” We soon reach the base of Tomeltentato in front of the Tatometekele, ‘Tato’s volcanic mine’, mineshaft.“It’s rather uneventful looking.” I commented as I cast a light spell against the mineshaft’s darkness.“Trust me,” He smiled at me, “You won’t need that for long.”“Better safe than sorry as my family would always say.”“Whaaatever.” We then get on an old wooden enchanted elevator.“Fine then.” I replied as we reach the bottom of the elevator. My eyes went wide as I see the lava everywhere.“By the seven blessed heavens, are you insane!?” I shouted while Zunis simply snickers, raise his staff and cast a freezing spell, making a frozen fold platform out of the lava. I simply wipe the sweat from my brow.“Oh the fun of being a specialist of the magical arts.” He said as he jumps across the platform. “This way!”“Alright then.” I simply followed him after rubbing my face in disbelief, “Hopefully this doesn’t end in a death by cave in.”“Hopefully.” He replied as we take a short break.“What are we looking for exactly?” I ask him.“I heard there are some powerful ancient artifacts in here.” He said as he makes a path by freezing more lava. I, on the other hand, simply sighed.“That’s a good reason as any. Now, where to go next?” Zunis then looks at the map but it’s just a map of the mine’s interior, not a treasure map.“No clue.”“We need to go to any nearby tunnels. The miners might have missed something. Maybe some diamonds. Maybe the remains of other adventurers.”“Maybe.” He said as we just continue walking the path Zunis made.“Of course,” I continued, “Warm places like this means that reptilian beings would live here, since the high temperature helps to keep them alert. We might end up meeting some in the tunnels.”“Indeed.” He said as we reach a tunnel. I walk ahead and cast a light spell.“Well,” I said as I look at the sight, “This looks promising.”“Indeed.” Zunis grinned. The whole tunnel is filled with untouched gemstones and crystals. I, on the other hand, look at the floor.“We better be careful.” I said as I jump over some areas of the ground. “There might be some weak spots on the ground.” Once I landed safely, I slowly head towards a crystal. Zunis followed my lead and ends up facing a ruby.“Hello, lovely.” He said while I simply grab a large emerald the size of my fist.“Amazing.” I didn’t notice a soft glow emanating from the emerald, thinking that it’s just the reflection of the light spell. Zunis pulls the ruby, just a regular ruby by the looks of it.“We might need a hammer and a chisel, to safely remove the gems out of the walls without causing possible structural damage.” I said as my eyes begin to glow like the emerald.“Maybe…” He said as he then notices my eyes, “Whoa, Urok, your eyes.”“What about it?” I said as my eyes turn into a golden color and still glowing.“They’re yellow and glowing.” He most likely joked. But we are in a hurry after all. I stared at him for a moment before replying.“You’re joking.” I then turn around, looking deeper into the tunnel ahead. “We better see how long this vein goes.” I then walk ahead into the tunnel. Zunis simply sighed.“Something crazy’s gonna happen…” He then followed me down. As we keep going on trough the tunnel, I simply look around amazed at the sight.“So many gemstones.” I commented, not noticing the light spell ending, leaving only my eyes and the emerald as the only sources of light. “We need to update the map to this place. Hire some people to mine, once we clear this area of monsters.” I said as I look around the area, not knowing that it’s in darkness. “No monsters around right now though. If we’re lucky, we might not have to battle one.”“Yeah, especially since we just ran out of light.” This surprised me.“What?” I then look around and notice the light spell gone. I grip my staff. “There might an invisible magic cancelling being around here.” I begin to scratch my neck. “Be vigilant.” I said as I swing above my head, thinking that something touched my neck from there.“Yeah…” He then pulls out his staff, “Wait, lemme try. Aztel!” A ball of light forms on the tip of his staff and quickly dissipates. “Okay, so something’s sapping our magic.”“That’s worrying.” I said as I continue to scratch my neck, noticing only the itchiness and not my flaking skin. The large emerald continues to glow softly.“We could use your eyes and emerald for light.” He joked again.“Really?” I said in an annoyed tone. “The place is bright enough as it is.” My eyes turn into reptilian slits. I then pull out my sword. “We just need to be careful. We don’t know what we’re up against and we can’t use our best skills to protect ourselves.”“Yeah.” He said as we continue on the tunnel. It is getting rather awkward after a noticeable moment of silence, only the sounds of me scratching my neck was heard, not noticing the green scales growing to replace it.“This volcano,” I said to pass the time, “Is called Tomeltentato, ‘the bosom of the goddess Tato’. Tato, or her complete name, Tatomarkatahetemel, which means ‘Tatomar, creator, mother and patron of reptiles’, is known locally as the protector of the faithful, a patron of the arts, patron goddess of the nearby kingdom of Nalomar, and a surprisingly good singer, we Randosians, in comparison, tend to believe that all reptiles are the servants of the fallen god Adomel.”“Uh huh.” He is clearly bored of the conversation. I decide to continue forward into the tunnel as we take a break near some torches.“This tunnel goes a surprisingly long way.” I said as I continue to scratch my neck, causing my old skin to flake away. Zunis watch me with wide open eyes. “What?” I asked as I begin to scratch my now itchy arm, causing more skin to flake off. The emerald appears to have shrunk but it must have been the perspective.“You’ll just disregard what I say, just like before with your glowing eyes.” The itchiness is getting annoying.“Disregard-” I the look down to see green scales on my arm, “By the seven! What happened to my arm?!”“You finally notice something’s wrong.”“I thought you were joking!” I shouted at him, instinctively baring my teeth at him, which I notice is getting sharper. “Terrible jokes, but still.” I continue to scratch my arm as the itch is too strong for me to ignore. The emerald continues to shrink. Zunis just watch me with his eyes open wide. The green scales continue to spread as I scratch my arm. I look at my fingers for a moment and stop at the sight. My fingers now have sharp black claws instead of fingernails. “What are you waiting for?” I shouted as my tongue, now long and split at the end, flickered out of my mouth. “Do something!” Some drool drips out of my mouth as I said it.“What should I do!?” He said as he walks back with fright."I don't know!" I growled as my skin begins to look more molted and paper like. Before the emerald completely disintegrates, a strange vapor appears and enters through my eyes, nose, and mouth, quickening the changes. I collapse to the ground from the pain. There is a paper-like rip as my human skin rips off from my face as my new lizard muzzle grows out. My hair falls off as more of my skin flake off. The colors of my scales mature into a dark green with a green belly color. My head continues to change shape, looking less human and more like a lizard. I can feel my clothes getting tight as more rips are heard, from both my skin and my clothes, as I slowly grow larger. Zunis watch is horror as he grips the wall for protection.I look at the ground and see my ears have fallen off with my face. I begin to cry, from both the fear and the pain. I look at Zunis with my yellow glowing reptilian eyes. He’s so much smaller and shorter now.“Haak Hee!” I pleaded to him as I can feel my throat changing. My boots ripped into pieces of leather rags and flaked skin, showing my black clawed three toed lizard feet. I can feel myself growing bigger, stronger, and hungrier. I try to fight it, but Zunis is starting to look appetizing with drool falling from my fanged mouth from the thought. He, however, is looking at me in absolute terror, his mouth open as if making a silent scream.“HAAK!” I screamed as a tail shoots out of my now ragged pants. My things fell to the ground as the leather straps holding them finally snap. Then I stand, a large lizardman in rags looking at Zunis with my glowing, yellow, silted eyes. My mind is overwhelmed by instinct and hunger as my senses bombard me with the sight and smell of food.I grinned at the sight of the prey right in front of me; all it takes is one wrong move before I pounce for the kill.“U-Urok?” He asked, shaking in fear. Wrong move.I roared at my quarry and jumps at him with an open mouth, showing him my sharp fangs and lizard tongue, for the kill.He screamed with fear as he raises his staff and swings it, hoping to deflect me for even a moment. But since the emerald, the cause of the magic cancelling effect, has vanished. Zunis is able to cast a magic shield to protect him. Angry at this, I continue to claw at the shield.“Come on Urok, fight it…” I notice how he seems to get weaker the more I attack his shield. This simply drives me on to attack it.With one last swipe, I break the shield, only for the released magic to enter me. I fell to the ground in pain as an emerald bump grew on the backs of my hands, the tops of my feet, my forehead, my chest, and my navel. I try to stand, only to completely collapse from the transformation. My moving chest shows that I'm still breathing, if asleep.“Whoa...” Zunis said as he cautiously put my hand on my back.“Fish and potatoes...” I mumbled in my sleep, then I yawn, opening my mouth wide, before turning around to the side.“That's a lot of teeth. Guess I should be on the safe side...” He said as he takes a few steps back and points his staff at me. "Amellimanus!" Metal bands form around my neck, wrists, and ankles. Chains form on each, link after link materializing, until they connect with the wall behind me. The noise of the chains wakes me up though.“Huh?” I said as I groggily open my eyes. I go fully awake when I saw the ruined pieces of clothing, my stuff on the ground, and the fact that I'm now a large lizardperson. “What the thirteen hells happened?!” I screamed, only for the sound of my rumbling stomach to interrupt me.“Well, for starters, you tried to eat me!”“I-I WHAT!?” I said as the grumbling of my stomach goes louder and I look down. “Ugh, feels like I haven't eaten in weeks.” I then look back at Zunis, the thought of eating him is beginning to be appealing. “Can you undo the transformation at least?” I’m not a powerful enough mage to undo such a spell.“I don't have anything powerful enough to undo it, sorry.” I simply sighed. Of course he can’t do it either.“Great.” I muttered as I try to rub my forehead, only to stop short due to the chains. “What are we going to do now? Hope that there's a cure somewhere in this place?”“Or hope you can keep controlling yourself.”Another growl was heard from my stomach. “I'm starving.” I then look around for food. “There has to be food around here somewhere.” I muttered. I didn't notice the emerald bumps beginning to glow as Zunis notices and takes a step back.“P-please keep in mind I d-don't count as food.” My eyes went wide in shock at the thought.“No, you're not food.” I said as the emerald bumps begin to release the vapor. “What's going on now?” I said as I notice the vapor that's heading towards him. “Don't tell me I'm infectious!”“Gah!” Zunis then puts up a magic shield around me. “Motemtus!” He casts, cleansing the air around me. The shield is airtight. “Good thing I can cast that spell.” He said with as he tries to calm himself down. I, however, can feel my head getting fuzzy. The vapor is still changing me.“How far does this vapor spread? I mean, can it go out of the mines?” I said as I fight the strange thoughts that are popping up. To spread the spell. To finish the job. To bring the cure. It’s all starting to make sense. “There has to be a cure somewhere in this place.” I said to him. “You have to release me so we can find more ground. If I release some infectious curse, then we're doom.”“F-f-fine... But just to be on the safe side, I'm putting a tracking spell on you.” He said as he points his staff at me. "Amellitum ut Exitorus!" The chains shatter, leaving the metal bands which I simply ignore, and a blue orb showing everything from my point of view appears near him.“Thanks.” I said as I go grab my stuff, luckily the backpack didn't rip into pieces. “We have to continue through this tunnel. Spells like these means that there's a cure nearby, maybe at the end of the tunnel.” I look at the gems and minerals. “Don't touch anything.” I said as I ready my sword and staff. “They might be cursed.” I then walk ahead.I continue to hide the fact that my mind is changing from him. But the thoughts are beginning to be tempting. I should eat the human, sure, but he has his purpose. I just need the proper timing.“Can you hear that?” I said to him. The sound of running water is too faint for a human to hear. “We should hurry. I can hear a spring from here. It must be the cure.” I said with a smile, knowing full well of the lie. I could be just a regular spring, or a cursed one, no one's quite sure. The fact that I lied to him so easily should have alarmed me of the changes, but it feels so normal for me, as if it comes to me naturally. Zunis simply makes sure that the magic shield simply surrounds me as he head off through the tunnel. My thoughts continue to change and I let my tongue flicker for a moment. We reach the spring while making sure I was behind Zunis, looking up at the ceiling to fool the tracking spell.“Still, amazing crystal formations here.” I smiled while looking at the ceiling, just one wrong move...“Sure, I guess.” He replied. I then kick him into the spring while still looking at the ceiling.“Fwah!?” He shouted as he lost his focus to keep the magic shield around me up. The vapor returned because of it. Zunis simply flails at the spring. I look at him with a mad grin as the underwater crystals begin to glow.“Soon, you will be cured.” I said as I heartily watch from a good distance. My resistance to the foreign thoughts is failing.“C-cured?” He asked as blue energies flow from the crystals into his body.“Yes, cured. I can see properly now. You will be cured, of your humanity!” I said as the thoughts completely overwhelmed my mind.“Kwaaah!” Blue scales erupt all over his body as he grow larger.“Can't you hear it? The voice? Telling you the truth? A curse to break? It's there. Calling you.” I said as to him as I watch with glee.“Ngh...” He said as he tries to leave the spring, only to fall onto all fours. A long forked tongue and a lot of saliva emerge from his new reptilian snout.“Hear it.” I said as I sit down on the ground near him. “Submit to it. Let it wash away the curse.”“Grrrr...” He growled as rows of huge teeth grow into the snout. His fingers snap together into three clawed digits.“Yesss.” I said with my tongue flickering. “Give in. Become what you should have been. Let the voice guide you to what you are.”“Sssss...” Webbing forms between his new reptilian hands. His clothes are straining against his massively growing form.“Let the old you be washed away. Be one with your new form. Be one with the cure.”He roar, the feral mind triumphing over his human one. His feet morph similar to his hands, and spines grow all the way down his elongating back. A huge tail, ending in a fluke, sprouts from his spine. Gills slash open on his neck, and he opens four pale blue eyes. Long fins sprout from his forearms and calves, and a few of his spines grow into fins in my back. He grows an extra pair of arms, leaving him in rags just like me. He is now a humanlike Leviathan. The blood of Totemar’s great water child flows in my companion’s body now.“You are now cured brother.” I said with a feral grin. “Now to spread the cure to the others.” A bright glint appeared in my eye for a moment. “And I think I have just the plan to do it.”“How ssshhhould we ssspread the cure, brother?”“The cure awakens by a human touch.” I said as I grab hold of a crystal, and it didn't glow. “All we need is to make the cure dormant for a time, maybe a month or two, and sell it.” I smile. “Once the dormancy spell ends, the cure would have spread far and wide into many cities and towns.” I then wave my hand at the vapor. “And since it becomes a vapor, no one can escape it. Especially if it can spread in the air and water.” I then flicker my tongue. “One can't hold a magic shield and try to survive a whole day. The cure will spread through the whole world, and we'll make a nice profit from it.”“Indeed we sshhall, brother.”“We do need to blend in better.” I said as I notice the rags. “We can say we were cursed by a wizard. It is technically true.” I said as I begin to gather the gems.“It issss. Hehehe...” Zunis then scoop up crystals from below the water. We then place the gathered crystals into the backpack; cast the dormancy spell on them and on the emerald bumps on me and head out of the mine back to Nartekumentolo to sell the crystals. It will be the first of many such trips. Soon, the cure will be release and spread throughout the world. I even send a special package to my family and the Academy back home in the Randosian Homeland. They too will be cured from the curse, and what place better suited to start learning than the Academy. ................
