• The ninth edition of Social Work Speaks presents, in one comprehensive and unabridged collection, the policy statements adopted by the NASW Delegate Assembly in 2011. The Delegate Assembly, NASW's key policymaking body, meets every three years. Social Work Speaks is the result of the Delegate Assembly's systematic approach to policy development and guides NASW's advocacy efforts in social policy. Social Work Speaks is an unrivaled reference tool that represents the collective thinking of thousands of experienced social work practitioners from all fields of practice.

• For social work policymakers, educators, students…this user-friendly volume can assist in developing organizational responses to policy issues, conducting policy analysis and study, & working in political action coalitions. The 2011 Delegate Assembly approved 18 revised policy statements. Arranged for easy reference, Social Work Speaks is organized alphabetically by topic area. Readers will find policy statements covering the full range of contemporary social issues—adolescent and young adult health, crime victim assistance, education of children and youths, electoral policies, hospice care, immigrants and refugees, and others. Social Work Speaks is a first-rate introductory social policy text that will spark dynamic and valuable debates on public policy & the role of social work in affecting social changes. For usefulness, study, & professional value, Social Work Speaks is an unmatched resource that should be on every social worker's bookshelf!

• Folks reported continued useful VCE training for CE held in various parts of Wayne County, ongoing “Take an online course, or attend a live training”:

• There was much discussion on the poor identity some Social Workers have, despite our professional body of knowledge & extent to which we are the dominant service provider in many industries such as VA or mental health. The problem is most acute in settings such as hospitals where physicians and nurses tend to dominate professional fronts. Also systems such as state government/ school districts/ EMs post for job titles other that Social Work, even thought that is what is practiced. The old fissures of “Micro v. Macro” were noted. We are encouraged to take on leadership positions in NASW & take on students in field work, particularly if for “macro” training tasks. We are to think of how Region 11 in Wayne Country can add its stamp on SW month in March, 2013. Joe Mauer encouraged all to join him in the Obama re-election campaign in Detroit, contact Rodney Johnson:313-330-3192/ 2727 2nd Avenue, Detroit, MI.

Respectfully, Leonard T. Zabawski, Region XI Rep. 8/24/12 late PM LZ: Labor Donated
