-------------------------------------------------------

DURING THE FILM GET EVERYTHING READY TO “TURN IN”!

Have your HERO or VILLAN HANDOUT ON TOP (

1. Think of 5 AWESOME MEALS* (using your old handout/PROJ) that would not exist today without the Columbian Exchange.

*Things that you love to grub! Example: NO PIZZA (don’t use it now).

2. (#1) is one of the main reason Europeans Explored the Americas and why we (The USA) is the melting-pot (Mixed Races)

That we are today!

REACTION HINTS:

Prince Henry’s Navigation School made/developed…

Caravels (or faster moving ships) that Columbus used in 1492

But, what if the ships were slower??? SEE PAGE #27!

Remember: It is believed that during Christopher Columbus' first expedition to the New World, San Salvador Island was the first land he sighted and visited on 12 October 1492; he named it San Salvador after Christ the Savior. His crew was starving and one ship taking on water @ day #70 or 71 (10 WEEKS).

What is he didn’t have the Carvel from Prince Henry on PAGE #27???

HELP:

Encomienda System:

The encomienda system was created by the Spanish to control and regulate American Indian labor and behavior. It happened during the colonization of the Americas. It Forced Indians to do much of the plantation labor. After many natives had died Africans were brought in due to their resistance to disease.

Word origin for SLAVE is from MIDIEVAL TIMES: The term slave has its origins in the word slav. The slavs, who inhabited a large part of Eastern Europe were lower class and did all the hard labor…SLAV (Slavic for) Slave.
