COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Monterey Bay is famous for its beautiful coastline and its many recreational attractions. This conference at the Embassy Suites Monterey Bay Seaside offers a rich learning opportunity in a pleasant and relaxing setting. Our speakers include both recognized experts in pediatrics and specialists from around the country as well as UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals.

The program will provide pediatricians, family practitioners, nurses, nurse practitioners, and other allied health professionals with the latest information on the diagnosis, assessment, treatment and prevention of several social and environmental conditions of infants, children and adolescents.

Our speakers will discuss the following pediatric topics under the theme "Mother Nature's Best Medicine: Rx Go Outside!": ? The benefits of outdoor activities on a child's mental and emotional

health

? The importance of curbing the use of social media to recapture childhood

? Best practices to help children stay safe and healthy while enjoying the benefits of play and nature

? An integrative approach to the management of Allergies and Asthma

? Sports Medicine: The latest guidelines for the pediatric specialty athletes

The conference format includes didactic sessions, case presentations, question/answer sessions, and breakout sessions.

OBJECTIVES

This symposium will enable the practitioner to: ? Utilize best practices for counseling patients and caregivers on the

importance of engaging with nature. ? Describe ways to help parents control their child's exposure to social

media. ? Describe the ways that media content contributes to obesity in children. ? Identify sun protection strategies for infant, school age children and

teens. ? List 2 diseases that can be prevented by effective insect bite prevention. ? Analyze the means to immobilize common in office fractures and assess

the basics of return to activity after a fracture. ? Identify the most typical features and treatment or management

concerns for tetanus, botulism, histoplasmosis, and coccidioidomycosis. ? Examine safety measures to prevent and treat eye trauma. ? Discuss measures that can help families manage environmental allergies. ? Identify best practices for managing asthma and potential treatment

alternatives. ? Identify patients with issues metabolizing vitamin D and those at greatest

risk for vitamin D deficiency. ? Differentiate how frequency, load, and duration of physical activity affects

the immature vs. mature skeleton. ? Describe several effective repellents for the prevention of insect bites and

stings.

UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland is accredited by the Institute of Medical Quality and the California Medical Association to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland takes responsibility for the content, quality and scientific integrity of this CME activity in accordance with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) guidelines for continuing medical education.

UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland designates this live activity for a maximum of 15 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This course is also offered through the Nursing Continuing Education Program of UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland. Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nurses, Provider Number 00374 for 15 contact hours.

NEW! Now offering ABP MOC Part 2 Points. To be eligible for ABP MOC Part 2 Points, participants are required to answer 70% of the presentation questions correctly, via an audience response system, during the conference. Eligible participants will receive up to 15 Part 2 points in the American Board of Pediatrics' (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program for 2020. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME in order to grant ABP MOC credit.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION

This year the CME Committee at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland will host a Strolling Dinner at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. In the Ocean's Edge Galleries, you'll dine beside the awe-inspiring Kelp Forest exhibit for a diver's?eye-view of sardines, leopard sharks, wolf-eels and a host of other fishes as they weave through swaying fronds of kelp, just like they do in the wild. In addition, you'll have the opportunity to experience the elegance of the Marine Mammal Gallery where spectacular life-size models of dolphins and whales swim overhead.

The evening's dinner will emphasize savory, seasonal menus derived from fresh, regional ingredients from local farmers and fishermen to bring the best of the Monterey area flavors to the Aquarium. The ticket price includes admission to the Aquarium and the Strolling Dinner. This event is partially subsidized by the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Oakland's CME Committee.
