UNIT 1, LESSON 3: THE NEOLITHIC AGE. FOOD PRODUCTION

GLOSSARY

1. AGRICULTURE: the activity of cultivating the land which started in the Neolithic Age, in the Fertile Crescents 10.000 years ago.

2. FERTILE CRESCENT: fertile area in the Middle East (South of Turkey, Irak, Jordania, Palestina and Egypt) thanks to the rivers Euphrates, Tigris and NIle river.

3. LIVESTOCK: domesticated animals from wich people in the Neolithic obtained food (milk, meat) and wool to make clothes.

4. STONE POLISHING: new techique appearing in the Neolithic Age used to polish stones to make new specialized tools (axes, hoes, hadmills).

5. HOE: new Neolithic tool made of polished stoine used for making holes and planting seeds.

6. SICKLE: new Neolithic tool made of bone used for ripping the crops of wheat, barley or rye.

7. AXE: new Neolithic tool made of polished Stone used for cutting down trees.

8. HAND MILL: new Neolithic tool used for grinding grain to obtain flour.

9. LOOM: new Neolithic tool made of Wood used for weaving clothes using trhead from a SPINDLE.

10. SENDENTARY: a kind of society which appeared in the Neolithic Age that lives in a permanent place and procudes their own food

11. ADOBE: a material used in the Neolithic age for making briks. It is a mixture of CLAY and STRAW, dried in the sun.
