Your guidance counselor will know you best and what will work best for you when applying to college so make sure you make an appointment and speak to your guidance counselor. I suggest a few things to keep in mind when choosing a college. First, apply to as many schools as you and your family can afford the application fees. Let the schools tell you if you were accepted or not and what kind of financial aid or scholarship package they are offering you. Don't make a decision for the school by not applying to a school you might want to go to. Although it is good to understand what schools are more accessible to you given your GPA and SAT scores, always have a school or two to shoot for. Hey, you never know! I suggest you apply to a minimum of five schools; one "shoot for" school, 3-4 within your realm of reality and 1-2 back ups you are sure to get in to. I also suggest that you go to a four year college or university whenever possible. Some of you will find it best to go to a community college for the first two years of your college and then transfer to a four-year college. Please, don't just go to NCC just because it's close to home and you can do your basic academic work there. In rare cases is this really to your advantage. You'll just wind up bored out of your skull and you might even quite college all together. NOT a good idea! There are a few solid community colleges on the list below that aren't too far away that actually offer programs in areas you might be interested in. Check out Naugatuck Community College in CT. Others community colleges listed below are part of the State University system of NY and you can more easily transfer your credits to another SUNY for a four-year degree.
Mix Magazine is one of the recording industry rags. They have a good website that you can checkout and see a selection of schools, divided by areas of the country, which offer recording and audio engineering degrees. I do not recommend that you go to a school that does not offer at least a 2 year Associate Degree. Yes, there are some very reputable schools that offer certificate programs but I would only recommend those schools on very rare occasions to people under the age of 25. A few are listed below.
