Goal: Students will practice and review vocabulary or idioms

Preparation: At the end of each day, teacher should type or write new vocabulary or phrases onto a piece of paper or Word Document. Make it a list format, which each new entry starting on the next line. Make the font an appropriate size to fill the space. After creating the list, print, and cut the vocabulary items into strips. Each strip should contain a single, complete idiom, phrase, or vocabulary word. Collect the strips into an envelope. Create new strips and continue adding them to the envelope after every class period.

Activity 1 – Build a Story: Students select 3-5 strips from the envelope and must create a story using all of the words/phrases. Students should be given 2-5 minutes (depending on level) to create a story in their heads. After the allotted time, students take turns to show the words/phrases they selected and tell their story.

Activity 2 – Pictionary: (materials needed – timer or clock) Divide class into teams. One student from one team will approach the board, select a slip of paper from the envelope and then draw a picture which shall elicit the word or phrase from their teammates. Student will have 1 minute to draw and get their teammates to guess. If the team guesses the word within 1 minute, the team receives one point.

Activity 3 – Write a story: (this is better as homework). Students draw 10+ slips of paper from the envelope and copy the words they have drawn into their notebooks. Students then must write a story containing all of the words/phrases/idioms.
