The Theatre

• Customers are free to walk around the auditorium during the show

• The auditorium doors will remain open throughout the show

• The main doors to the building will be closed and we will have members of staff situated there to prevent anybody leaving the Theatre unaccompanied

• On the Dress Circle level the auditorium doors will lead to a chill out area which is situated on the Dress Circle foyer

• The chill out area will have a mixture of beanbags and chairs but we will be reducing the amount of chairs and tables so these areas will be free from clutter

The Lighting

• Throughout this performance of Beauty and the Beast the houselights in the auditorium will remain on at all times

• There are no moving and chasing lights throughout the show. There are no big flashes, strobe lights or pyrotechnics used

• Sometimes the lights will shine patterns onto the ceiling and the walls of the auditorium

The Sound

• There is live music played throughout the show. The orchestra are in the orchestra pit and cannot be seen easily

• The show is quite noisy, and even though we have reduced the sound a lot there may still be one or two points in the show where there may be a louder bang or crash

• Some people may wish to wear ear defenders. Unfortunately we do not have these so you will need to bring your own

• Please also be aware that due to the nature of this audience there may be loud noises that come from other customers

Timings

If you are attending the 1.30pm performance;

• The doors to the auditorium will open at 12.30pm

• The show will start at 1.30pm

• There will be an interval of 20 minutes beginning at 2.25pm

• The show will finish at 3.35pm

• Spoken announcements will give warnings that the show is about to start.

If you are attending the 7.15pm performance;

• The doors to the auditorium will open at 6.15pm

• The show will start at 7.15pm

• There will be an interval of 20 minutes beginning at 8.10pm

• The show will finish at 9.20pm

• Spoken announcements will give warnings that the show is about to start.

The Actors

• The cast have all received Autism/Access awareness training. They have been advised to carry on with the show regardless of the audience responses.

• The cast do talk directly to the audience.

Merchandise

The pantomime merchandise normally consists of flashing toys. Due to the flashing lights these will not be on sale at the relaxed performance. However all of our customers will be offered a glow stick. Please advise a member of staff if you do not want one of these.

Feedback

We welcome your feedback! We are committed to providing Relaxed Performances in the future so it is important that we receive as much feedback as possible so that we can improve for next time.

We would of course also like to hear what we have done right and what has really worked. A feedback form will be sent via email to those customers who have provided us with their email address. If you would like to receive a hard copy through the post, please let a member of staff know.

WARNING!!! The following notes contain information about the show. If you do not want or need to know what will happen then please do not read these notes. However some people may find them useful to help prepare for the visit in advance.

PLEASE NOTE – This year’s performance of Beauty and the Beast features a 3D scene. If you are not comfortable with this please do not put on the glasses or remove them and the 3D effect will not work. You can also leave the auditorium if you wish.

The Show- ACT 1

• Introduction

There will be a short introduction and welcome to the show by Dame Betty Blumenthal.

• The Curse!

Deadly Nightshade asks Prince Sebastian to marry her so they can rule the mortal and immortal worlds together. Prince Sebastian refuses and Deadly Nightshade curses him, turning him into an ugly beast! The curse can only be broken if a girl falls in love with the beast before the last petal on the rose falls.

• The Town of Nottingwood

We meet Belle, who sings about finding love. Belle meets Trent Bridge, who she doesn’t like very much. We meet Benny and Betty, who are Belle’s friends. Benny and Betty are trying to find somewhere for them and Belle to stay as they are on holiday. Mrs Potts arrives in a car and tells us she has been cursed to stay serving the Beast and she hasn’t seen her daughter in years. Benny and Betty ask if they can all stay in the castle. Mrs Potts agrees to let them stay when she meets Belle, as Belle may be able to break the curse! Mrs Potts tell

• The Road to the Castle

A petal falls from the rose and we hear Trent Bridge and Deadly Nightshade talk about the evil Kraken that is guarding the castle. Trent Bridge sings a funny song.

• Inside the Beast’s Castle

The Beast meets Benny, Betty and Belle. The Beast tells Belle that Benny and Betty will die unless she stays with him. Belle agrees to stay, but does not like the Beast. Betty and Benny decide to cook dinner for the Beast.

• A Castle corridor

Benny tells some jokes and does some impressions. Trent Bridge meets Betty and tells her he wants to kill the Beast to recue Belle. Benny comes back on and shows Betty his new laptop. Betty wants to try on some hats and askes Benny to clean the mirror. He tries to but ends up breaking it! He then pretends to be Betty’s reflections, with some very funny results!

• The Castle Dining room

Belle sings a lullaby. The Beast arrives to have dinner with Belle. Mrs Potts tries to tell the Beast what to say but he is not very polite. Betty and Benny come in to tell them what is for dinner. Deadly Nightshade enters, but she is invisible to Belle. She makes the Beast cross and Belle thinks he is shouting at her, so she runs off.

• Outside Belle’s bedroom

The Beast finds Belle and explains that he didn’t mean to scare her. Belle asks if they can have dinner again and the Beast agrees. Deadly Nightshade enters and tells us she wants to destroy Belle to break the Beast’s heart. She releases the Kraken, who grabs Belle. The Beast runs on and attacks the Kraken with a sword to rescue Belle.

PLEASE NOTE – the Kraken is a large animatronic sea monster that moves out towards and over the audience.

INTERVAL- There will be an interval of 20 minutes

ACT 2

• The Castle Ballroom

Mrs Potts invites everyone to the castle to celebrate the Beast defeating the Kraken. Betty sings a song and dances. The Beast enters and everyone is frightened but Mrs Potts, Betty and Benny explain that the Beast is a hero. Belle comes on in a beautiful dress and dances beautifully with the Beast. Everyone else goes to the castle dining room as Belle and the Beast dance in the moonlight.

• Outside the Castle

Deadly Nightshade shouts at Trent Bridge for letting people near the castle and Trent Bridge decides he will kill the Beast to break Belle’s heart. Betty and Benny come on and Benny has a trolley full of DVDs. Betty tells Benny about her date last night as Benny shouts out the titles of the DVDs. This interrupts Betty story and can make parts of it sound a little rude!

• The Castle Rose Garden

Belle asks the Beast what his real name is and he gives her a rose. They sing a love song to each other as they dance together. Deadly Nightshade interrupts and makes the Beast cross again but Belle realises who it is and Deadly Nightshade becomes visible to her. They leave and Mrs Potts asks Betty to go to the shop. Belle comes on again humming the lullaby, which Mrs Potts recognises. Belle tells them both that Trent Bridge wants to marry her but she has left him in no doubt. Betty looks in a hand mirror, which has been cursed by Deadly Nightshade. When Belle looks in it, she sees a crowd of angry people coming to kill the Beast and she runs of to stop them. The Beast enters and Mrs Potts tells him that Trent Bridge wants to marry Belle and she has left him in no doubt. He misunderstands and thinks Belle has gone to marry Trent Bridge. He roars loudly and leaves. Deadly Nightshade comes on feeling happy that everything is going wrong and tells Mrs Potts that Belle is her daughter. Mrs Potts runs off to help Belle. Deadly Nightshade casts a spell to grow a haunted forest.

• The Haunted Forest

Benny and Betty find themselves in the haunted forest. Benny will ask everyone to put on their magic glasses. THIS IS THE 3D SECTION OF THE SHOW NOW. This section includes an array of ground-breaking special effects, taking them deep into a spooky forest on the way to the Beast’s castle. The 3D graphics are now more sophisticated than ever and include crows, spiders, tree roots, flies, owl, moving tree people, a swamp monster, an array of bugs and a wolf. The effect will make it seem that these things are reaching out towards you. Please note: this section may be a little scary for those under 5 years of age or those with a nervous disposition. . If you are not comfortable with this please do not put on the glasses or remove them and the 3D effect will not work. You can also leave the auditorium if you wish.

• A Village Street

Trent tells some villagers that the Beast is dangerous they all sing about killing the Beast. Belle runs in and begs Trent Bridge not to kill the Beast and that she will marry him if he doesn’t. Trent Bridge refuses and Belle runs off to the castle.

• The Castle Ballroom

Benny shows Trent Bridge his new Apple Watch, which isn’t working properly and keeps playing lots of different songs. Betty comes in dressed as Wonder Woman and Trent Bridge brings in all the angry villagers. Eventually Trent Bridge finds the Beast who is so upset he asks Trent Bridge to kill him. Trent Bridge wounds the Beast and tells him that Belle actually loves the Beast. Trent Bridge is about to kill the Beast when Deadly Nightshade casts a spell on him to make him leave. Belle runs on and tells the Beast that she loves him just before the last petal falls. The Beast transforms back into Prince Sebastian and Deadly Nightshade disappears. Prince Sebastian asks Belle to marry him and she says yes. Mrs Potts tells Bells she is her mum and everyone gets ready for the royal wedding!

• Preparing for the Wedding

Mrs Potts, Betty, Benny and Trent Bridge sing a funny song about what other jobs they would do if they didn’t work for Prince Sebastian.

• The Royal Wedding – Finale!

Everybody is dressed in sparkly outfits as Belle and Prince Sebastian are married!

The cast will take a bow.
