Tagxedo is a free, web-based word cloud creator, similar to Wordle. But with Tagxedo, you can place your word cloud in a shape! CLICK HERE to see a sample.

Getting Started

To start a new Tagxedo, scroll down and click the Start Now button.

NOTE: Before using Tagxedo, you may need to install Microsoft Silverlight. If you see the words Please Install at the top of the screen, that means Silverlight is not currently installed. You will only have to do this one time. Do not click on Please Install. This will take you to an out of date version of Silverlight. Instead, go to Then click the Click to Install Button.

When prompted, click Run. (This will happen twice.)

When this screen appears, click Install Now.

Uncheck the update box, and then click Next.

When you see this screen, Silverlight has been installed and you are ready to go. Click Close.

Choosing a Shape

Click the arrow beside the word Shape, and select a shape.

Your chosen shape will appear, but it will contain "filler" text.

To add your own text, under Words, choose Load.

Type or paste your text in the Enter Text box, and then click the Submit button.

Notes on Text The size of the word depends upon the frequency with which it appears in your text. To make a word large, enter it several times.

To connect multiple words into a phrase, use ~ between the words.

More words will fill out the shape more fully, and create a better looking Tagxedo.

Small words (the, and, in, etc.) will be omitted. Choose Word Options > Remove Common Words > No. Then click Accept.

You can type text in a Notepad file, and then upload the saved file. NOTE: The file must be saved as a Notepad (.txt) file.

Respins

Choose options in the Respins section to change the characteristics of your Tagxedo.

Printing Your Work

Choose the Print button. If you have a PDF creator installed, you can save your Tagxedo as a PDF.

Saving Your Work

Click the Save button.

Please note that the copy saved will not be editable. It will be an image file. The recommended files size and type is indicated by the red box.

You will be prompted to name your Tagxedo. Note the location in which it is saved.
