The Pacific Area Standards Congress held its thirty-second meeting March 31 to April 4, 2009. The Congress passed a number of key resolutions at the meeting, and ANSI vice president Gary Kushnier was awarded the PASC Meritorious Service Award.

IEC and ISO Win Emmy for MPEG Standards

The International Electrotechnical Commission and International Organization for Standardization were recently awarded a Technology and Engineering Emmy Award for their work in the development of the MPEG-4 Advanced Video Coding standard. The International Telecommunication Union’s Video Coding Experts Group received a similar award for its role in the work.

NIST and FCC to Hold Workshop on MRAs for Electromagnetic Compatibility and Telecommunications Regulations

The National Institute of Standards and Technology and the U.S. Federal Communications Commission are co-hosting the Second International Workshop on Mutual Recognition Agreements for Conformity Assessment of EMC and Telecommunications Regulations. The workshop will take place May 5–7, 2009, at the NIST headquarters in Gaithersburg, MD.
