BITS FROM THE BOARD

LMWD Officers for 2017: President, Jess Vickery; Vice-Chair, Tim Beers; Secretary, Mike Sanford; Roger Williams Treasurer; and Tim Casillas as Member.

The Board has assigned a committee to work on the job description and list of tasks for the position of “maintenance technician” and will soon be interviewing candidates for the position.

Board Positions available for 2018.

Several Board positions will be coming available for 2018. If needed, an election will be held in November. If you are interested in serving as a Board member please contact the office of Paul Minasian and ask to speak to Secretary Vicki Hoggins, or contact current Board President, Jess Vickery to obtain an application.

.

LAKE CLEANOUT: FEMA/CalOES Funding: The Board applied for and has been awarded emergency funding for “restoration” of the Lake inlets and coves, following the damaging January 2017 storm events. A contractor has been selected and approved by both agencies. The method of silt removal WILL NOT REQUIRE THAT THE LAKE WATER LEVEL BE LOWERED!

FEMA/CalOES agencies do not offer the money “up front” so it is necessary for the district to take out a loan so that contractors can be paid in a timely manner. A Board member is working on this financing.

This very large project will require all beaches and lakeside areas to be cleared of watercraft, beach chairs, paddleboards, canopies and floats, toys, and any personal items: We ask that these items be removed to your property as soon as possible after Labor Day if you will not be at the lake frequently enough to remove your items when equipment begins arriving, which may be as early as in mid-September! Thanks to all who remove their personal items to their property as requested!

Grant Status for Repairs to Dam Outlet Pipe: Lake Madrone Water District was awarded grant funds to reimburse expenses incurred in 2015 during the mandatory repair of the outlet pipe at the dam. The Board has not yet received the funds from the government.

Water craft: Please label your water craft with your family name so that you can be contacted if there is a problem with your craft.

OTHER BITS

Dangerous Wildlife: There have been two sightings of a full grown mountain lion within the boundaries of Lake Madrone. We had a bear at our cabin deck twice this summer, and most recently a 24” rattlesnake in the middle of the road at 380 Lakeside Way. Several rattlesnakes have also been killed on Old Mill Road. Please discuss these wildlife encounters with your family members and review avoidance techniques. Be sure to monitor small children and pets closely: especially after dark!

No Bear Club: Ron Sanford is our local “Garbage Guru”. If you would like to participate in this local service you can contact him at: (530)589-1034. The combination to the garbage club bin was changed on July 1, 2017. Those who are up-to-date on payment received notice of the new combination. Bins are to be used for disposal of HOUSEHOLD GARBAGE ONLY: NOT CONTRUCTION MATERIALS, FURNITURE, or STOVE PIPE MATERIALS! No Electronics, TV’s, vacuum cleaners, garage chemicals or paint are allowed: Haul these non-household items through your own methods.

Next LMWD Meeting: Saturday, August 26, 2017; at 9:30 am at the Ski Beach Picnic area.

Galen Creek Association Meeting, Saturday, Sept 23rd at 2pm: Ski Beach picnic area.
