SCI is seeking to recruit: -

Job Title: Project Coordinator

Location: Kapoeta/Bor South Sudan

Reports to: SIDA Program Manager

Contract period: 12 Months – with possibility of extension.

JOB PURPOSE:

The post holder will coordinate implementation all aspects of the education ,youth empowerment and child protection activities under SIDA programme in the two states of programme implementation locations( Eastern equatiroa and Jonglei states); This will include but not limited to : assessments, planning, implementation, budget management, monitoring and reporting and overseeing quality delivery of project activities in accordance with the approved donor and government agreements and work plan. The post holder will ensure that the human, material and financial resources of the project are well managed in line with Save the Children financial, grant management and other approved guidelines. The post holder will also ensure that project activities are consistent with Save the Children’s programming principles and approaches, draw on relevant best practices and lessons learned, enable children and youth to attain their rights and are compliant with donor regulations.

In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

• Support project assessments and project implementation data collection and documentation to inform both project concepts and funding proposals as well as project progress

• Support with coordination of all SIDA programme implementation activities ensuring timely, effective and quality delivery of services as committed in the work plans.

• Work with Technical Assistant programme manager in Leading technical design of the assessments i.e. teacher capacity assessment to inform the teacher trainings and support delivery of continuous and blended training to the teachers

• Orient, coach and support field project staff, including incentive workers and volunteers to know Save the Children programming principles and approaches related to child and youth protection projects objectives

• Support programme manager in ensuring that quality programmes are initiated and capacities of project staff and key stakeholders developed to address gaps related to education, child right violations and youth empowerment barriers.

• Support project staff to prepare their activity plan and provide supervision and requisite capacity development to ensure smooth implementation of projects

• Represent Save the Children in both education and protection working groups clusters and other relevant sectoral/coordination meetings to ensure children and youth agenda and issues are prioritized and Save the Children’s voice as advocate for children is heard.

• Monitor project implementation and ensure project staff have the relevant tools to meet the project implementation and targets.

• Prepare and follow up all procurement and stock management through TIM and support project staff to adhere to stock management and compliance requirements.

• Support in reporting and development of new projects

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

• Ability to identify the main gaps in child and youth education and protection programming in the given context to inform a holistic response for children and youth.

• Good knowledge of and experience in using established inter-agency standards and guidelines in child and youth education and protection, such as the Inter-Agency Guidelines on education in emergencies, Separated and Unaccompanied Children, SC Child Friendly Spaces Handbook, and the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Settings.

• Excellent communication skills (written and spoken English)

• Previous experience of project management including managing staff

• Experience of and commitment to working through systems of community participation and accountability

• Experience in monitoring and evaluating child and youth education and protection programmes in emergency contexts

• Experience of representation and ability to represent SC effectively in external forums.

• Experience in capacity strengthening and in strengthening various duty bearers understanding of and response to child and youth education and protection.

Desirable

• Commitment to and understanding of South Sudan child and youth rights, the aims and principles of SC and humanitarian standards such as the Sphere Charter and the Code of Conduct.

• Good working knowledge of the Inter-Agency Child Protection and education Information Management Systems

• Commitment to upholding Save the Children’s Child Safeguarding Policy, as well as principles of do no harm and confidentiality.

• Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities

• Able to work to tight deadlines under pressure

• The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.

• Experience or knowledge of working and living in tough humanitarian contexts

• Experience with partnership development and working with civil society actors

• Experience working with participatory methodologies
